Guest Killian Posted November 24, 2009 Report Posted November 24, 2009 So, I finally tire of Windows Mobile and have decided to go the way of the Android and have ordered myself a T-Mobile G2 Touch (HTC Hero) which I expect to arrive tomorrow. I’ve spent a good few hours browsing the forums and whilst the process of Flashing custom ROMs doesn’t seem as straightforward as it was on Windows Mobile, I’m sure once I get the hardware I should be able to figure my way around. I just had a few questions I was hoping people could answer? - Is it best to wait a while before flashing? I’m thinking just encase there is some kind of Hardware fault though I’m sure I’ve read a number of times that flashing doesn’t invalidate the Warranty as you can return it back to it’s original state pretty easily. - Is the G2 Touch GSM or CDMA? Probably a stupid question but I can’t find anything even when I google it. I seem to be sure its GSM but after seeing Pauls “Do not flash this to a GSM”/”Do not flash this to a CDMA” warnings I figure its best to be safe than sorry. - Can the latest updates still be rooted? I’ve read a few times that the update from T-Mob blocked the kernel exploit that rooting was using though I’m sure I’ve also read a workaround has now been found (goldcards or something like that). - Could anybody tell me if it comes with an SD card or should I pick one up on the cheap? That’s pretty much it for now but I’m pretty sure I may end up coming back to make sure I’ve got the process right when the phone arrives. Thanks to any and all who help :D K
Guest kendon Posted November 24, 2009 Report Posted November 24, 2009 concerning that you didn't tell us in which country you live/ordered the g2 touch i will just give you the answers for t-mobile germany: - i don't see the point. the phone works or doesn't. - gsm - no (but can be downgraded, do you know the difference between rooting and flashing?) - comes with 2gb micro sdcard. get an 8gb sdhc class 6.
Guest Killian Posted November 24, 2009 Report Posted November 24, 2009 That's a very good point.... lol I'm in the UK. From what I understand of it 'Rooting' is gaining Admin Access to functionality that would otherwise not be allowed whereas flashing is overwriting the entire OS with a customised ROM. I suppose my first question is just concerning the fact that if it doesn't work; could it be returned once it's been rooted and/or flashed?
Guest Gabbb Posted November 27, 2009 Report Posted November 27, 2009 My g2 touch just arrived! I want to try out the M. rom. What I would like to know if the "Unlocker" method which I've just seen on a youtube video works on 1.76.111.6 g2, if not what can possibly be done?

Guest Gabbb Posted November 27, 2009 Report Posted November 27, 2009 Maybe you want to check From 'Virgin' to Hero MoDaCo Custom ROM That is probably a very nice method :D, but I'm looking for a windows solution and want to know if the "unlocker.com" method works on my 1.76.111.6 device. I'm greatly sorry for trolling this topic, but this was the only g2 one I found at first glance.
