yes, everybody is still wondering why, but the new radio is better than the old one. as usual.

I dont really see any improvement from the last radio, however its no worse so i'll be keeping it coz its new and new is always better. I think it would be interesting if there was a change log for these rads. Can't help thinking theres a bit of a placebo effect going on lol.

I agree, im never too sure if maybe something was taken out from the previous one, because sometimes new isn't always better. But this radio i get a very stable signal, hardly moves at all

I went back from JU to IU, I had the impression my battery drains faster, however could also be only an illusion.

Newest is not always the best one. I have test so far the IU, FU, EU, JU radios and the EU radio has been only stable with good reception in my network. Using EU right now.

I noticed a big improvement when going from EU to IU. Haven't installed JU yet but will probably do it today. I'll write something when I've had it running for a while.

I left the GPS and bluetooth on the following day after updating to JU. Next morning I was surprised to see the battery still at 75%. After a busy day at work I checked the battery, expecting it to be long gone. 50% remaining and the GPS was still on. I haven't checked it this morning yet, I imaging it will be pancaked, but that is still double the time I was getting before, 2 full days when it would barely last 24 hours with the previous radio!

I'm using Modaco 2.9 as well. I am sure that this is not a placebo effect.

The signal strength seems no different - usually good for me.

I too seem to think I'm getting more battery life out of it, although no firm figures to back that up. I hardly charged my phone at all yesterday after upgrading the radio (I usually plug it into USB whilst at work, because it sits next to my PC anyway, but I left it in my pocket) and it was still at 70% when I got home. Didn't charge it overnight, still on 40% this morning. I'm convinced on the old radio it would have been flashing red by now.

One thing though, the signal strength meter seems lower - it used to be 3-4 bars at home, 2 at work. Now it's 2-3 at home and 1 at work. However, the call quality seems unaffected - in fact on one bar at work, I could hold a perfect conversation yesterday where before it'd be dropping the odd word here and there. Is it possible they've recalibrated the signal meter, so the new 2 bars is the old 3 etc? Or is it turning down the strength to save battery?

When you say you left the GPS on, do you mean it was on and being used by an app? If an app doesn't use it I'm fairly certain that it's not draining the battery. The toggle for GPS is more a toggle for availability rather than use...

Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Since going to JU I've noticed improved data connectivity/speed though yesterday afternoon I was unable to do anything online with the phone, even send a tweet! I'm unsure what the problem was or how it was resolved but there appeared to be 3g activity and sync seemed to be trying to run constantly. I did some reboots and even reflashed but it didn't help. Post connecting to my home Wi-Fi all has been well. If you've had this perhaps we should compare apps, etc?

My problem with the IU Radio has been, that it drops me from my network sometimes. I have to reboot my phone to get back. That`s why I can`t use it. Don`t know why, but it does do that. JU I tried and drop me from hsdpa to gprs and didn`t rise up anymore. So I use the radio witch has a stable/trusty reception. It keeps me mostly on hsdpa with signals 1-4, mostly 2-3. That`s my opinion. It can depend of your network also, I guess...

I've found a significant improvement in Battery life with the JU radio. Though of course its always difficult to make comparisons on batt life.

i found wifi tethering has become much faster.

I wouldn't know, i cant get it to work. :D

Re signal seeming to be lower.

My odd conclusion, that makes no sense...

With JU my battery's loads better, loads. Odd thing though, when I'm not on a call the signal seems to stay at one bar, but then the moment I make a call it leaps right up to full signal, I've kept an eye on it today/yest and it's done it every time I put the phone down/hit dial. Maybe something funky's been done with signal lock to reduce battery burn?

I can't report on the battery and if what you say is true or not...

But talking about bar numbers, with JU radio I always had 1 or 2 bars only, most of the time 1, rarely 3 bars. I went back to the EU one (IU was the same as JU). It seems to be around 3/4 bars most of the time. Dunno if it has any impact on battery like you said...

JU radio working fine for me. I agree that the bars seem to be lower. However I have not noticed any decrease in performance or Edge/HDSPA signaling. Perhaps they have changed how the signal strength is measured? As Pillock said

Could very well be IMO. Other than that I think there has been an improvement in general battery-life for me as well.

I have exactly that problem, am on Vodafone in the UK. Using MCR 2.2 and the IU radio. Not noticed any improvements in signal over the EU and it drops me from the network often. I've not been rebooting to get signal back, just activating airplane mode and then deactivating it (in my head, that reboots the radio).

Either way, will try JU radio and if that's no good i'll just roll back.

I found that signal bar and radio detection much better than 08.22 radio.

anyone had any issues with the new radio of messages not sending or being received and then all messages coming through at once and being able to send again? dont know whether its my network or the radio as it shows signal strength as high
