Does the omnia i900 have some sort of protection to prevent the use of non samsung chargers?

Hello

My omnia i900l works fine. Only problem is that I cannot charge it on my car. I have tried three different chargers but none of them charges the battery. All the chargers are 0.7amps/hr or higher. Also tried a blackberry charger and nothing happened. I also bought a converter from the proprietary Samsung plug to the standard mini usb one, to try different chargers. Same result.

I can charge the phone using USB and wall charger without any problem.

Question is: Does the phone have some sort of intelligence to detect that a non Samsung Charger is being use?

ROM Version; DXIA5

Thank You

Rafael

IIRC, the omia will only charge in USB mode (your car charger probably is one) when a connection to the computer is made, either activesync/massstorage

Yes, you have to modify your sync cable

As you see, here is the configuration of data sync cable.

http://pinouts.ru/CellularPhones-P-W...7_pinout.shtml

Compared the plug pins between AC power cable and data sync cable, I found out that AC power cable is missing pin#16, #17 and #18. It makes sense that AC power cable is missing the pin #16 and #17 since they are USB data+ and data- respectively. The answer for cable hack is obvious, just take the pin#18 out from VCC connection.

Please keep in mind that don't use this hacked cable to charge the device from your PC - this is causing potential reliability issue of USB host of your PC. I assume that the current draw should exceed 500mA of USB power distribution limit, and Samsung should have wanted to prevent the issue by connecting the pin#18 to VCC for data sync purpose.
