exactly what i was looking for, thx. just want to keep it somewhere on the harddisk, i like having the option to revert to as-bought state (though probably never will do :D ).

No this is the very first screen you'll see if you have a T-mobile G2 Touch when you switch it on.

The image you're refering to is in /system/media/bootscreen/boot.gif

You can get it from the phone by using ADB

adb pull /system/media/bootscreen/boot.gif TheLocationYouWantItToGoTO

Ok, cheers Mark. I'm actually wanting to get rid of the T-Mobile screen and just have the Hero and HTC screens.
