Question re: the recovery image...

Right, I've been twiddling with Paul's wonderful ROM's since 2.5, and am now on 2.8.

I've installed WaveSecure (via the zip) so in theory the only thing leaving my phone "unsecure" is leaving USB debug enabled, and also having the recovery image permanently installed. Is it "safe" (or even possible) to put the default recovery image back? (and if so, how?)

From reading, it appears the only way I can do this is to apply an older RUU (before 405.5 to avoid the nasty new bootloader), then "hack from scratch" but NOT apply the new permanent recovery image....yes/no?

Does anyone know if it's possible to "extract" the/a bootloader image? (presumably Paul has it as part of his full rooted RUU?)

ptruman,

If you used Flash rec to apply the custom recovery image, then you should have the original backed up on your SD card.

If you didn't use flash rec then I've attached the original one for you. You can install this back onto your phone in a few different ways i beleive but one way is to copy the attached recovery image to the root of your SD card then download better terminal emulator from the market then type

su (ignore any response)
mount -a (ignore any response)
flash_image recovery /sdcard/recovery-backup.img (if u get a memory error let it repeat down the screen
then when it stops power down and power into recovery image it should have worked still !)
[/codebox]

then you will have the original recovery image back.

the problem that i see is: if someone gets a grip on your phone who is knowingly enough to break your security by accessing the recovery image, then he will be probably also have the skills to replace it...

Thanks, but I presume that's an Orange one? My HTC was unbranded (sim free) so that's the one I'd be after.

I didn't use FlashRec - I just followed the instructions on XDA which (at the time) didn't refer to FlashRec :D
