Guest fergiem Posted February 2, 2003 Report Posted February 2, 2003  I am trying to charge my spv for the first time and it tells me in the manual that there should be an amber light to show that it is charging. When I connect it to the port it starts off green and then disappears. The guy in the shop told me that I had to charge it for 16 hours initially, and then I heard him on the phone talking to Orange and saying that it would take 16 hours to activate the SIM card anyway. So how do I know if the phone is charging?! Its not warm and when I turn it on it shows the charging feature in the top right hand corner and then changes to full battery with the green light on constantly - I'm a little slow and very confused. Should I be using the usb port or the small adapter? Does it have to charge for 16hours or was that just so that they could activate my SIM? Can you charge the phone without the SIM activated? I'm so simple none of the other messages have actually dealt with charging! Cheers
Guest almark Posted February 2, 2003 Report Posted February 2, 2003 I was told something similar. The lights went out after about 3 hours, I think it had been charged before and boyos in the shop had had a look at the phone. Anyway, I switched it on and it worked. The first thing you will need to do is ring 156 from the phone and get then to turn on MMS and GPRS, they will send you a message, read it and delete and any you go!
Guest mouse_uk Posted February 3, 2003 Report Posted February 3, 2003 ..Yeah these little details can be so confusing to us newbies. Anyhow i thought the same as you when i first got my SPV, so you're not the only simple guy on here. Basically the SPV battery comes fully charged from out of the box (the only phone i know that does!). The static green light represents a strong battery; When the static green light goes off, (when the phone is powered down and placed either on the cradle or mains charger) this tells you that the phone is fully charged; The static amber light shows you that the phone is charging. The phone should take around 2 hours to charge (this is not very long).
Guest Will Posted February 3, 2003 Report Posted February 3, 2003 For some reason, most SPV's come fully or partially charged, this may be to do with the Li-ion battery. but don't panic, the topic has been aired a few times, and most people agree the guys in the phone shop have not been playing, As for the charging light, it should flick on and off, the phone trickle charges to full power in the cradle then stopss charging, until it discharges a certain amount, then the green light should appear. And yes you can charge the phone, even if the SIM is not activated. Will
Guest HelloDave Posted February 3, 2003 Report Posted February 3, 2003 The green and amber lights look almost the same and even though I've had my SPV since December I still can't tell the difference! If the light is constanly on the phone is charging, even if it looks green!
Guest SirGaz Posted February 3, 2003 Report Posted February 3, 2003 Are far as I can tell, the Amber light IS green. I've never seen seen anything remotely amber looking.
Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted February 3, 2003 Report Posted February 3, 2003 Mine looks perfectly amber, which represents "charging". Flashing green is when the phone is idle, flashing red means your battery is knackered and solid green means you are in a call. These are quoted in the manual as above, and i've never seen anything but those light combinations...
Guest SirGaz Posted February 3, 2003 Report Posted February 3, 2003 I must admit that the lowest I've had the battery is about 35% so I've never had chance to see the red light, but the lights I do have are as follows: Flashing Green - normal use or on and finished charging Solid Green - charging Off - Phone off and charging finished Maybe my phone is wired up wrong, can't be bothered to find out as a light does come on when charging. Am I the only one here?
Guest Will Posted February 3, 2003 Report Posted February 3, 2003 the solid red does exist. you get it if you power on the phone after it has shutdown due to low battery.. If you drain the phone even more, you allegedly loose data/settings, but i've tried, and always kept everything.. Will
Guest DancingMatt Posted February 3, 2003 Report Posted February 3, 2003 I'm sure my phone has different amber and green lights. What's confusing me recently is that I turn the phone off, plug it into the cable (not the cradle, directly to the cable using the adaptor) and on comes the amber light. I leave it on overnight and when I wake up the light is off. I turn the phone on, still plugged in, and the amber light comes and stays on. Doesn't seem to switch off. Is it charging some more?
Guest MECX Posted February 3, 2003 Report Posted February 3, 2003 There is an amber light LOL ;) was it just me or did anybody else start plugging there phone in and out to see the different colour lights  there is a slight difference but i would hardly call it amber--maybe light green. havent seen the red light yet. when i have my phone in the cradle (with activesync on and power cable attached) the green (amber!!) light stays on all the time and dont go off---if i charge it with the adaptor the green light goes off after a few hours. When you get you phone new you should kill the battery then charge the phone while it is off overnight----then do the same again. after this LI ion batterys prefer to be topped up so if your at home stick it in the cradle for charging.
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted February 3, 2003 Report Posted February 3, 2003 MECX Mine starts off AMBER when the cradle starts charging but goes green when finished. and it's a definate AMBER for me ;) On the topic of charging another thing to try is the "converting the cradle" mod so that the phone is charged via usb instead of the main charger, saves all that plugingunpluging pain. remember DO THAT AT YOUR OWN RISK. http://www.modaco.com/viewtopic...ght=usb+charger
Guest MECX Posted February 4, 2003 Report Posted February 4, 2003 damn i wish i had an amberlight----can someone write a prog to make the light flash red when i have a text--that would be useful. also if you dont want to bugger up your cradle thing you could buy a usb charger/active sync cable--bout £15 or so i think. ooooo pritty colours 8)
