Phone keeps resetting on alignment screen

I tried to downgrade my Omnia to the Vodafone ACHJ2 firmware so I can send the phone for repair.

But now the phone keeps resetting its self on the screen alignment phase repeatedly.

I was running custom ROM DXHH3 (I think).

I followed the instructions from this post http://www.modaco.com/content/i900-general-omnia-rom-discussion/279637/vodafone-uk-rom-help/ as I didn’t want to do the lang change and hex editing.

So I did this

Flash to DXHJ1

Flash to Official T-Mobile Rom BOHH5

Run Samsung Official ACHJ2 Updater, but got the incorrect version number.

So then I tried

Changing to Singapore, SingTel

Changed reg entry to DZHH1

Used the i900DZIA5_updater_xp.exe (this was the one the Samsung site gave me for Singapore).

Change lang back to UK.

I then tried to use the ACHJ2 updater but got incorrect version again.

I then tried the hex editor on update.exe and the ACHJ2 updater ran, but only downloaded the first file and then gave a message of download failed.

The phone was working at this point.

I then cleared down my temp folders on my PC and rebooted to start again.

With the phone on i900DZIA5, reg hacked DZHH1 and set to UK I tried installing the custom ROM DXHJ1 again.

Now every time the phone starts it gets to the screen alignment phase and say’s it needs to reset, but keeps doing this over and over.

I have tried reinstalling both ROMS DXHJ1 and BOHH5, but the problem remains.

Any ideas?, any help would be greatly appreciated.

Many.

Ian.

Also does anyone know if there is anywhere I could send the phone to have it fixed?.

Thanks.

SBE Ltd in Ashford, Kent, are the UK samsung authorised repairers but from experience avoid them unless the device is under warranty. And take lots of pictures before sending it. IIRC you can't just send it you need a case ref from samsung etc.

They will just JTAG flash it back to the UK firmware so I wouldn't worry too much about getting the correct rom on there before sending if it won't boot past the align screen.

Please be aware that this is what worked for my phone. This is NOT a tested and approved process, it is just a description of what I used to fix a problem with my phone. If you use this process you are doing so at your own risk

Thanks for the replies.

The alignment bit was working, but part way through the process a message box would appear saying something like "A reset is needed to apply changes".

I have found this normally happens twice after putting a custom ROM on the phone, but on this occasion it kept happening constantly.

I have now resolved this problem.

I read on the net that leaving the phone for a period of time with out the battery in the phone will let you do the ROM process again with out the constant resetting,

This is what I did.

Left the battery out of the phone for approx 3 to 4 days (don't know how long this needs to be, but this is now I left the phone whilst I was looking on the net for solutions).

Ran the DXHJ1 ROM updater.

Plugged the usb cable into the phone and computer.

Put the battery in the phone and turned it on.

Ran the ROM updater (pressed the start button)

Let the ROM updater process.

Left the phone connected and let it restart its self and what ever else it needs to do.

The phone was then on the setup screen and not wanting to reset, did the set-up.

Closed the ROM updater.

Shut down the PC.

Disconnected the phone from the PC.
