It's a 60MB prototype firmware update for a French version of the Pulse. The upcoming device has been reviewed at Phandroid http://phandroid.com/2009/11/18/huawei-u82...ive-and-kickin/

Sadly the device appears to be Android 1.5. The white version looks ugly but the review claims the final model will be blue. Presumably intended for French Bouygues Telecom so not much use to most of us here but perhaps there might be some software enhancements that we can pinch for the Pulse.

The download contains an "update.app" for "U8230 B219SP02 Software Upgrade". Interestingly the documentation mentions that you can get into an engineering mode by entering *#*#2846579#*#* into the dialer, which also works on the Pulse, it mostly justs list version details. It seems to be a prototype release.

If the hardware of the U8230 is identical to the Pulse then maybe it does give some weight to the suggestion of an Android 2.0 update. Clearly Huawei are still trying to offer the Pulse to many more carriers worldwide and putting Android 2.0 on it would certainly help them achieve that. Fingers crossed, we can only hope.
