Handcent SMS crashing Sense

Hi, does anyone else have this problem with Handcent SMS

If my phone is on its side therefore rotating the display and a SMS text message comes through, the notification popup appears ok, but Sense UI dies instantly and restarts itself. It has crashed when I had the phone in normal mode on a cradle, but not so frequently. The SMS comes through fine, and I can reply etc.

Handcent is not failing and continues normally, but something in the UI display is causing a fatal exception. Thankfully the Sense UI has a monitor process which automagically restarts it, so a few seconds delay and all is well again.

Is there anyway I can log whats going on so if it happens again, I can view the log? It has only started over the last couple of weeks since updating to 1.8 teknologist kernel and subsequently 1.9, but I have also updated the Handcent SMS software a couple of times using the marketplace update. So not sure what is the trigger here.

The phone itself is quick, smooth and generally no trouble at all, and the latest radio update has improved battery life immensely, recommeded update there folks. Radio Update here

HTC Hero with MoDaCo 2.9 with Teknologist 1.9 ROM, custom SPL re Pauls recent update, modified load splash.

Thanks in advance.

Hi Mate,

I'm seeing the same issue too, it only ever seems to happen when I receive the SMS popup. I'm using Modaco 2.9, Kernel 1.8 and the IU radio.

I've logged a bug on the handcent forum, but it doesn't look like anyone else has experienced the issue.

Handcent randomly crashes the Sense UI and the phone fixes itself, but it's still VERY annoying... Anybody know how to log what's causing the crashes??

What network are you on? Has the new radio improved the signal strength also??

Cheers.

Same problem here, crashes when rotating. Could be a problem with the popup. My best guess is that the rotating (and therefore the increased width) crashes the popup and that crashes Sense UI.

Guys,

log your issues in the handcent forum on their official site i.e. www.handcent.com

Maybe they'll take a look into it...

Going to, wanted to see if I was alone, in other words, a unique case, or if users who haven't used a custom rom experience the same issues. As it may be a custom rom issue and not necessarily the Handcent software. My question was about logging in the custom rom as to help diagnose the issue.

Any suggestions, and I will log this as well anyway with Handcent.

Thanks.

Just figured out how to fix this issue!

There's a setting to stop the pop-up from changing to landscape when you turn your phone around.

I unchecked the setting from the default (the pop-up no longer changes to landscape) and now Handcent doesn't crash my phone!

Hope this helps...

Yes, I too had noticed this, but never actually remembered to post it as a fix on here! doh! Although it doesn't stop Handcent from switching to landscape, and it takes aggggeeeeeeeesssssss to revert to portrait after you hold it upright..... but all good in the end! :D
