Guest ptruman Posted December 2, 2009 Report Posted December 2, 2009 Righto, my head is obviously not screwed on today (a dead laptop and house electrical issues aren't helping). I have a my Hero running MoDaCo 2.8 and Tek 1.9, all is well. When I first installed MoDaCo, I installed the "CyanogenMod v1.4 + JF" recovery image, which I can access via booting with Home/Power. Today, I decided to look at (NOT install) the latest AmonRa (1.3.2) image. I downloaded it to my PC and did this : adb shell reboot bootloader And the bootloader duly appears... I then did : fastboot boot recovery-RA-hero-v1.3.2.img Messages fly past about creating boot.img and it reboots. At this point, I'd expect the phone to bring up the AmonRa image, no? All I get is a black screen with "Hero" in nice crisp white letters. Only way out is to yank the battery, "adb devices" shows nothing. Obviously I *could* flash the recovery image, and then reflash the Cyanogen version, but I don't want to do that - so my question is this : By rooting & installing the Cyanogen recovery image, can I now not use the fastboot method? Or am I doing something wrong?
Guest clarkEEE1 Posted December 2, 2009 Report Posted December 2, 2009 (edited) to look at the amon recovery image put the recovery img in the sdk/tools folder adb shell reboot bootloader fastboot boot Recovery-RA-Hero-v1.3.2.img This will let you look but not flash the image looks like your commands are ok make sure you put the image in the tools folder this is the way I do it never any probs Edited December 2, 2009 by clarkEEE1

With the cm-hero-recovery.img I get this : downloading 'boot.img'... OKAY booting... OKAY and it works... with AmonRa I get : creating boot image... creating boot image - 34816 bytes downloading 'boot.img'... OKAY booting... OKAY Then nothing. (admittedly the cm-hero-recovery.img is already flashed...) - but both .img files are in the same folder on the PC (with ADB and FASTBOOT exe files) Just wondering what's up? Guest sr2 Posted December 2, 2009 Report Posted December 2, 2009 I am trying to do the same thing as the op, yet was also wondering whether there was a way not to patch the recovery permanently.
Guest kookix Posted December 2, 2009 Report Posted December 2, 2009 I experienced the same issue [Cyanogen recovery to AmonRa 1.3.2], after flashing and reboot the screen stop on Hero, and I wait but nothing I was afraid my phone was dead ! Yank the battery and reboot and wait a long time, solve my issue.
Guest clarkEEE1 Posted December 2, 2009 Report Posted December 2, 2009 Weird it should work with them cmds, sr2 have you tried it. It don't matter if its the cm recovery or amon there all flashed/booted the same way flash it and flash back only takes 2min, amons recovery as come along way from cyanogens recovery loads of extra features.

Guest sr2 Posted December 2, 2009 Report Posted December 2, 2009 (edited) Sorry, I phrased what I said really weirdly. I wanted to know how you used to use a recovery image as a one time thing, not a permanent flash (through I think those commands don't work me me either, as HTC Sync refuses to work properly. It keeps crashing explorer.exe on Windows 7 for me) Weird it should work with them cmds, sr2 have you tried it. Guest clarkEEE1 Posted December 2, 2009 Report Posted December 2, 2009 I new what you ment, htc sync as nothing to do with recovery img. You need the sdk which I presume you have already and there's a program in there fastboot (located in tools) which we are using to do this, I can't help no more as the method above as always worked for me which I do before flashing the recovery and I think a lot of people on here will do without useing flashrec I only use adb if I can.
