new in android..

So i ordered brand new HTC Hero which comes i hope this week.

What should i do first?

I was reading some forums thay says that you need to upgrade to new version cause the original is slow and laggy,is it true?

Give my some hints what i need to do.

And good programs for using and games to.

I don't no about the new firmware if its laggy or not I have used modaco since modaco 1.2 and ill never go back to the network rom. Programs I use eray, su file manager, andro zip, audio hack, cache mate, dolphin browser, root booter, my backup pro, im. Meebo,battery status widget, imusic, meridian, photo clock, more icons widget, x uninstaller, weatherbug pro, co pilot, wallpaper set and save, tubedroid, tune wiki, voice text, ta utility, fotmob, better keyboard, ringdroid that's a few will take to long to name them all.
