Guest goosegog Posted February 2, 2003 Report Posted February 2, 2003 Has anyone managed to install or use ICQ on their phone?
Guest Paul [MVP] Posted February 2, 2003 Report Posted February 2, 2003 Yep. I have JabberCE installed which works for ICQ. P
Guest goosegog Posted February 2, 2003 Report Posted February 2, 2003 Could you expand on that a little please. I'm not familiar with JabberCE Many thanks Ferg
Guest Paul [MVP] Posted February 2, 2003 Report Posted February 2, 2003 You can find out a bit more on Handango, and I will be posting a review in a new 'Reviews' section soon! P
Guest xanadu Posted February 2, 2003 Report Posted February 2, 2003 Jabber runs most of the 'chat' clients in one program istead of running all the different versions, like MSN, ICQ, Yahoo, AIM, etc. It is available for purchase from Handango http://mobile.handango.com/orange/Platform...og=110&posit=10
Guest goosegog Posted February 2, 2003 Report Posted February 2, 2003 Thanks guys, so you'd recommend it I guess. Is it quite a GPRS hungry thing to use?
Guest idoru Posted February 2, 2003 Report Posted February 2, 2003 Hi all, is there anyway to get a Trial Version of JabberCE. I would hate to pay for it and then find its crap or that eats up all your GPRS quota. Any views?
Guest Paul [MVP] Posted February 2, 2003 Report Posted February 2, 2003 There isn't one available... Maybe try writing to Mov Software and asking them? P
Guest Emad Posted February 2, 2003 Report Posted February 2, 2003 I believe its about the same as MSN messenger - the main differences come in the server side configuration (ie you can get offline messages and crap). It may even be a lil lighter on the usage as its not got as many styley bits.
Guest fozzie Posted February 3, 2003 Report Posted February 3, 2003 "]You can find out a bit more on Handango, and I will be posting a review in a new 'Reviews' section soon! P Paul - I've had a few attempts at trying to get this app setup but still not there yet. It installs ok and I can get a connection to a Jabber server (jabber.org.uk). It then locks up the SPV and I have to power-cycle the phone. Do you or anyone else have any ideas please? Cheers, Fozzie
Guest budda Posted May 14, 2003 Report Posted May 14, 2003 I've been told you can use your WAP browser with wap88.com to access the ICQ network. Works on old Nokia phones... not having much luck getting it viewed in Pocket IE. I've disabled the auto detection in the connections menu too.
