HELP - NEWBIE!! NOT got a clue!

Hello all, I'm new to the andoid thing and have recently got a Hero. I keep reading about ROM updates etc but I'm a little lost. I've downloaded apps etc and think the whole idea of flexibility etc is great.

I'm currently running the following:

On 3 Network

Firmware 1.5

Software 1.0.0.A6288

Can I list the kernal version and build number or would people be able to hack the phone with that data?? If thats a stupid question sorry.

There are loads of good guides out there for rooting your phone, which is what you need to do before you can add any custom ROM or owt. I used this resource originally:

Sit tight and read up befor doing anything.

Flashing roms is very simple, but it's best to be happy you know the correct way to do it first otherwise it can a nerve racking thing.

As said, the unlockr is a very good start for rootings and flashing as they have simple to follow vids- it's much nicer to actually see someone actually doing it instead of just text on a forum.
