There's a few things which appear on my Taskiller App List which I don't use and so I had a look into disabling them so I got Autostarts (still a bit scared about ADB and shells atm!).

I've got Peep Disabled and the Notes app which is part of Modaco now but I was wondering what else I can disable without fear of anything else getting messed up as a result. I never use HTC's mail app so I thought I'd disable that but the warning that flashes up when you disable anything has given me the fear a little.

I was wondering, if I make a nandroid backup and then disable something I shouldn't and the phone fails to reboot can I just restore the nandroid and have everything be ok again? I suspect the answer is yes but I thought I'd check first.

Finally I'm a bit scared of disabling something and it not being immediately apparent if I've broken something as a result and not realising I just need to turn something back on. People who are using Autostarts, have you found there are any definite things to avoid disabling?

i use it and disabled quite a few things, had some problems and had to re-enable some stuff. in general:

- you can disable everything you see when hiding system apps without any risk.

- you can also disable system apps (especially because the status "system app" is determined by the place of the apk, so it can be other stuff as long as it is in /system/app), but be prepared to run into trouble

- "trouble" means usually not catastrophic failure, but more like timeouts and error messages when trying to do soemthing

- if you can kill the app via taskmanager without problems you can also disable it, but keep in mind that there are apps that need to be started once to work properly, for example watch and calendar. you can kill these after a reboot, but if they weren't started once you will miss your alarms (<- not tested, just read it on xda somewhere...)

- a nandroid will reset your autostart settings, yes.

if you have questions about specific apps just put them here, maybe someone tried it already. but like i said, just try it, your phone won't explode. and do not disable anything called "service" :D
