I've tried a million settings (everything suggested on the web). Nothing worked.

This is going to sound ridiculously obvious if you've already tried it, but have you been to the vodafone site and got the settings sent to your phone?

I have tried both MMS and mms for the APN settings but that makes it worse, i.e. 3G disappears and get an error messages straight away that I can't download at this time.... Before it tried to download then gave a failed error message....

Will try and get it sent to my phone, I called vodafone up and asked them to send it but they said no due to not supporting the phone, even though I asked them to send it for any android based phone....

Well there are no options to send a text message to any Android phone it seems with vodafone.co.uk as there are only instructions: http://devicehelp.vodafone.co.uk/filestore...CTattoo_MMS.pdf

I have followed that, the only difference was the proxy has the same IP address as the mms proxy.... But the same problem is still left..... It fails to download the picture..... Any other help is appreciated.... Thanks.

edit: Just wondering, is anybody else having this issue within another provider? i.e. T-Mobile themselves or anyone else?

I've seen quite a few people complaining on Expansys about MMS, vodafone and the Hero, I've not looked in a while to see if it's been sorted, might be worth a look.

Thanks for that, it doesn't not seemed to have been sorted by Vodafone.... http://forum.vodafone.co.uk/index.php?show...=33165&st=0

Some of the replies seem to have been to update the ROM via those found at xda-developers...

I think there's something wierd with Android's implementation of MMS as there seems to be a lot of people having issues with it. If I put what I know to be the correct settings into mine, I get the same thing as you, I can send MMS just fine, but when it hit the "Download" button on the MMS notification, I just get a "Download unsuccessful". If I try another providers SIM who uses a different setup (has a extra port number as part of the MMS URL) then it works fine.

Setting the APN Type to "mms" means that the phone will disconnect from the primary APN and change to the specified MMS one in order to download MMS data, this is why your 3G symbol disappears briefly. Some providers can use the same APN for data and MMS just by filling in the different data & MMS fields.

It's odd, and annoying ;)

my mms proxy on a Nokia (getting pulse tomorrow) has no "zero" in the last three digits might that make a difference?

you wrote:

mms proxy = 212.183.137.012

mine is 212.183.137.12

Hi, yes I originally had the setting to .12 rather than .012 so have tried both.... I changed it to .012 as that was what was written on the vodafone website.....

012 and 12 are the same. It's just an IP address!

i'm still trying all sorts of settings with no joy - how on earth can it be so hard for even the network themselves to fix?

frankly it's ridiculous

in the apn list would i be right in assuming that only the apn with the selected spot next to it would be used? so i have to fix the one thats there rather than writing a new one only for it to to be selected? or is the apn type relevant?

I've not seen the "apn type" setting on any other handsets

I know this is a old thread but anyway...

I'm on Vodafone and got my MMS working:

Following the O2 MMS thread on here

Basically it meant downloading - http://android.modaco.com/index.php?act=at...st&id=46694

And replacing a file in "system/etc" on the phone with the downloaded file

And then going to "Access Point Names" on the fone and clicking rest to default

And then reboot the phone.

JOB DONE :)

Ohh, although I've totally escaped my Vodafone contract now, it is very good to hear that it is fixable.

I wonder if that's something that Paul could do automatically in MCRs.

Yep been using the above method for a couple of months now, not a problem anymore. Hopefully the v2.1 rom has the fix already in there giryan :)

It's not fixed with the Hungarian 2.1 on O2, not tried Paul's 2.1 ROM yet.
