Request for a "how-to" for building android roms

I'd like to get involved in helping port 1.6 or 2.0 over to the pulse. Paul's work is brilliant, but I don't know how to get started - could you post an overview of what you're using to build your custom kernels and the MCR images?

I'm pretty new to actually building and compiling stuff, but I built chromium the other week and now I'd like to do more!

Instructions for the kernel build are contained in the kernel thread, a cracking good read it is.

Porting to 1.6 or 2.0 only started at the weekend so not as much to read on the 1.6 2.0 development thread.

Been looking for the same thing myself. I have come across this

http://source.android.com/documentation/building-for-dream

Can anyone who knows about building ROMs say whether this is a good place to start for someone new to building?

Another link to start is:

http://pdk.android.com/online-pdk/guide/build_system.html

But you can't get around reading the Source itself ... The documentation kinda sucks
