Guest awarner [MVP] Posted April 1, 2003 Report Posted April 1, 2003 Just to repost one of many lost topics, it was announced that MBoden one of our longtime members has finaly hit the big time by releasing Notbad the original notepad app on Handango. The best news is that it's been updated and certified as well  link here
Guest muude Posted April 2, 2003 Report Posted April 2, 2003 It seems to me that the new Notbad has just about the same features as Orneta Notepad, so I think I'll stick to the free one... Although supporting MBoden isn't a bad idea...
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted April 2, 2003 Report Posted April 2, 2003 I have spoken to MBoden about Doom and it looks like there are some big changes coming up  but not right away ;)
Guest MBoden Posted April 2, 2003 Report Posted April 2, 2003 Just to clarify  : [unintentional offensive stuff removed] I havent gotten myself employed by AIM , AIM's my publisher, i have a publisher to ensure that i can do what i do best , code , while they do the rest ;) Don't worry doom will always be free, i wouldn't take money for other peoples code, not even if it was allowed :( . What has happened is that i'm still looking for a job and a man has got to eat. My software was never meant to cost money, i just want to make programs that people use and enjoy and to see MS Smartphone succeed. I will still make freeware and as awarner says , Doom has some good things coming, but my priority right now is paying bills, but soon..... MBoden
Guest Hax Posted April 2, 2003 Report Posted April 2, 2003 Sorry to hear that you're having trouble finding work mboden - just to clarify, I wasn't implying that you were "greedy" or goiong to try and "take money for other peoples code". Just hoping that there might be more in the pipleline for Doom - that's all! Hope I've not caused you any offence  I think it's encouraging to see a piece of software succeed and wish you all the best for the future. Hax
Guest MBoden Posted April 2, 2003 Report Posted April 2, 2003 Hax> you didn't cause offence, i did if anyone did, and im sorry, i just wanted to say why i started taking money for my software, and that it doesn't mean that all my software will be payware  in other words, i'm not selling out, only partly
Guest madu Posted April 2, 2003 Report Posted April 2, 2003 Good lad MBoden! I'd pay for it, but I have no use for that in the long-run really... [won't go into details, anti-advert is bad] hehe.. Best of luck though!!
Guest Richie M Posted April 2, 2003 Report Posted April 2, 2003 I say good on you MBoden, I can't underdstand why people expect to get software for free anyway (obviously i understand why they want it for free). It's all psychology anyway, if NotBad had came out on Handigo first everyone would be saying what a great app, well worth the price etc. but cos it was free initially they bitch about it  forgetting what a great groundbreaking app it is and they are "paying" for upgrades really anyway (just think how much your last PC OS "upgrade" cost ) END RANT
Guest Hax Posted April 2, 2003 Report Posted April 2, 2003 None of the comments posted here have actually been negative about NotBad, just some people expressing their choice to stick with equivalent free versions. I'm sure that most will agree that mboden has indeed done some very fine work for the Smartphone community and I for one don't begrudge him trying to earn his crust - in fact I've just bought a copy myself - well worth it *I* think - especially as I was looking for this the other day after having just done a hard reset on my phone ;) Keep it up mboden and do what you need to keep yourself afloat  Best wishes, Hax
Guest MBoden Posted April 2, 2003 Report Posted April 2, 2003 I haven't seen any negative comments here, only on smartphony (and that came from a guy that complained about a bug, and since i haven't seen a bugreport from him he doesn't count  ) and I thank you all for you support :( I also understand the people that choose the free alternative to NotBad , I probably would myself  but one should remember that there are two "markets" , one being the "nerds" that unlock their SPV's and the other "normal" folks that doesn't want to mess with unlocking. Certified software is mainly for the ones that don't unlock their phone, but not exclusively. Don't diss the people that select the free alternative, and dont diss the ones that chose to pay, whatever their reason ;) MBoden
Guest spacemonkey Posted April 2, 2003 Report Posted April 2, 2003 Good work MBoden. I agree with what you've done. Heck, I'd sell my work if I could and I was organised enough (it'd buy me future handsets  ). Although since I haven't written anything original that's not gonna happen. It's all part of a software development community that some code is a collaboration of a number of peoples time freely given and gets given as freeware, other code is the work of a single person alone and it's their choice whether to make it payware/shareware/freeware. At the end of the day, for any given app you just have to look at what it'll cost you and whether it is worth it to you personally for that price.
