How often is the "dead pixels" problem?

Hi guys!

I'd like ask all of you how often is this problem in Hero series?

I bought one a month ago and it has some stucked pixels, but I heard that the chance of getting even worse phone is bigger, so I decided to keep this one, because these dots are practically invisible during the common work with the phone.

I can see one or two if I set the brightness level to full, but thats my second question- how many of you use brightness on full or you do prefere to keep it on automatic? I discovered that on manual setting the phone loses light sensor function, am I right?

i have like 3 dead pixels, doesn't bother me at all because i seem them only when i look for them, i use automatic light, i think its the best way to save some battery without actually disabling or losing any functionality of device/software (and yes ofc when u set brightness automatically, phone doesn't use light sensor for anything)

From all opinions I got (plus from the other forums)- here is the statistics:

38 people don't have any/ 34 do have this issue...

Not good for HTC...

If you have stuck pixels, which are much more common than totally dead ones, Try JScreenFix - available for free on the Android Market. Worked for me!

I have one, which is about one inch under the "H" in HTC at the top, and again, only visible at boot - no where else.

Given the pixel size, it's bloody miniscule and I have to tilt the phone to see it, but now I know it's there...

I shall try the app ;)

Holy crap! That's great, I have NEVER had success with one of those programs so I'm pleased for you!

Probably dust, not a hot pixel. What colour is it?

It appears white, and shows up on black screens when powered, so it's probably a pixel IMO.

It appears the the HTC screen test & JPixel have shifted it, I can't see it anymore.

The thing is, all devices with a screen made up of pixels - a TV, a camcorder, a phone, a digital camera, etc... - every one of them will state in the manual that 99.9% of pixels are effective and it is normal for some to become defective during the manufacturing process. It is entirely normal and to be expected to have one or more "dead pixels", although I agree it's a right bugger when you spot one! About 7 years ago I bought a laptop that had two dead pixels - I tried to arrange an exchange but they wouldn't as they said that up to 5 dead pixels would be considered fine. I did think about trying to screw up a few more pixels, but instead I just returned it for a full refund quoting the distance selling regulations ;)

Yeah, JScreenFix is different to most, as it pulses subpixels separately and each pixel is randomised compared to the previous pixel. This makes it work more effectively. I discovered it a couple of years ago, and have fixed stuck pixels on 2 laptops and my old Nokia N95 with it. There's more details at their site jscreenfix.com.

Can you add an option for "I had some/one but has now gone away"?! ;)

(mind did - and it was either JScreenFix *OR* the HTC screen test app - see my "Debug/Test" thread - that basically engages/disengages the screen and turns the whole screen Red, Green, Blue, Black, White, ad nauseum, each time you press the screen, until you press "back".

I noticed the dead pixel I had was gone after that, but I'd been running JScreenFix just before then too...

I have quite many in boot screen, but not actually anywhere else at all. I tried that app (and many more other too) from the market, but no help. It`s the same in 2 of my Heros.
