I keep getting ones which are much longer than the 160 characters but mine seem to be limited to that, otherwise it sends as 2 messages.... Thanks.

No phone is capable of sending more per SMS. What does happen though is that when you go over 160 characters, two messages are sent and these are "stitched" together by the receiving phone to make it look like one long message. Is this what you mean?
