Hi Guys

I've had a problem for a couple of days now with getting internet via usb/activesync on 1 of my Omnia's.

I don't know what I've done (I don't really think I've done anything) but for some reason, I can no longer get any internet through the usb via activesync.

The activesync connection is great... nice and stable... but alas, no internet... absolutely NOTHING works... there's just no internet passthrough.

The icon is there on the taskbar, but no internet.

I know other people have had similar issues, but this is the first time I've experienced it.

If any body know's a fix, I'd be more than happy to buy them a beer... coffee... woman... or even a gift certificate.

Thanks in advance.

Are you manually initiating the "Internet Sharing" from settings?

Also make sure is set to USB, not bluetooth, and internet connection selected is correct.

I seem to have a problem like this often as well...I'm using Wozzer's first wm 6.5 rom (for i910 verizon) and the Internet Sharing program and usb tethering. I have the following:

PC Connection:

USB

Network Connection:

Broadband Access

It will connect about 75% of the time, and when it does connect, it does not stay connected long. (Usually 1 to 5 minutes.)

Hi Boosted.

I'm not using 'Internet Sharing' at all.

What I'm talking about is the 'out of the box' ability to use my PC's internet connection, on the Omnia, via USB/Activesync.

I have been using it this way without a problem since day 1, however, it's now that something has gone wrong, and it no longer works.

Everything else is working fine... Activesync connects fine, the phone reacts as usual... charging via USB still works fine.

The problem seems to be with the phone's network settings... it think's it's connected... because I don't get the 'network connection' error when I try to load the home page in Opera, for example, with the standard settings I have always used... I just get a blank screen... Even when I try to update SPB weather, I don't get a connection error message, as you would if it wasn't connected to the USB. However, I do get the normal error messages if I change the network, under connection settings in Opera.

I know a hard reset will probably fix the problem, but I have so heavily customised the phone, I REALLY REALLY want to avoid a hard reset at all costs.

Thanks for the reply, and I hope this explains the situation a little more.

i will try turning off active sync on the pc side (uncheck "allow usb connections") in activesync or windows mobile center, and then on the phone, under start/settings/connections/usb to to pc, i will uncheck "Enable advanced network functionality" and see if that helps.

Ok... funny you should say that... I've done everything I can with Activesync... even reinstalled it.

And I cannot find "Enable advanced network functionality" anywhere in the phone.

well i finally stopped being lazy and upgraded to storm's v12 rom and the internet sharing connection seems much more stable, but has anyone else noticed WLAN problems with that rom?

Off topic.

This thread is about internet connection on a standard rom.

There are other threads for discussions about cooked roms... thanks.

like i said under start/setting/connections/ there should be a "usb to pc" and that where it is. if not, then you have a problem with that rom or it's disabled in registry and if you know something about registrack hack, then you can enable it by deleting the redirect key in the registry to enable it. hklm/control panel/usb to pc/

Thanks popsinger.

FYI, my rom is Australian BUHJ2.

Under Start/Settings/Connections, neither of my Omnia's has "USB to PC". They both have "USB Connection" under which is only the choice between 'Activesync' and 'Mass Storaage'.

I'm pretty good with the registry, so I'll take a look at HKLM/Control Panel/ now...

OK... under HKLM/Control Panel, I have the following:

PC Connection

PCConnection

USBConMode

Each of these has only the standard string value, 'Default' and a DWORD value named 'Group' with a decimal value of '2'.

Any ideas?

OK... Update:

I can now get internet surfing with opera, but still no connection for things like SPB weather, Extra GPS etc.

Also noticed something that seems to be becoming a common problem... Under 'My Network Card Connects to:' I have a completely blank drop down box.

I found 'USB to PC' as an .exe file on the rom, and have turned off advanced network functionality to no avail.

From surfing around, I know I'm not the only person to experience this, and most people do a hard reset it seems, and that fixes the problem, but I want to avoid a hard reset at all costs if possible.
