Freezes at Android logo

Strange thing happened this morning, when I came to switch on my phone it would get as far as the Android logo and then do nothing else, just froze there. I rebooted a few times and still nothing. I hadn't changed anything on the phone since the last time it was switched on and am still running the original firmware. Thankfully I had done a nandroid backup last week and simply booted the recovery image and did a restore which fixed things, but I wonder what had gone wrong? Filesystem corruption?

Happened to me too, and a couple of other people. I'd also guess filesystem corruption, which sucks.
