Guest BoogWeed Posted December 12, 2009 Report Posted December 12, 2009 Hi all, MY hero touch screen stopped working properly yesterday and now it doesn;t even boot up. I have a HTC Hero (T-Mobile UK G2 Touch branded). Yesterday I went to unlock the screen and put in my lock pattern to make a call when the screen got stuck; half showing the lock screen + clock and half showing the unlock pattern page. It was stuck there for about 1 minute. I was just about to remove the battery but the phone became responsive again. A few hours after that, the very bottom of the touch screen (all programs, phone, add widget ) stopped working. It takes about 10 - 20 presses to bring the phone dialer up and thats with me pressing my finger on the top most part of the phone dialer button, if I press exactly on the phone dailer button itself it doesn't work. The 'all programs' and the 'add widget' buttons work once in maybe 20 - 30 clicks. The rest of the screen works PERFECTLY every single time. I have NEVER dropped my phone or scratched/put excessive pressure on the screen (whilst in my pocket etc.) I'm currently running MCR 3.0 + Technologist 1.9 kernel + JU radio and have been using MCR since 1.4. I tried to reinstall MCR3.0 but I get a message: E:Can't open /sdcard/3.0-update-hero-modacocustomrom-core-signed.zip (bad) Installation aborted. I then tried to reinstall MCR 2.9 (which was still on the sd card from last installation) and I get the exact same error message... Whilst I was type this message, I though I might try wiping the phone and starting from scratch. The wipe was 'Successful' but now the phone doesn't get past the "G2 Touch/T-Mobile" splash screen, it just sits there. I've left it for about 10mins but it doesn;t do anything. Restoring the latest nandroid backup doesn't do anything. I've gotten TOO attached to my Hero for it to die now... ;) Can anyone help..?

Have you tried entering the fastboot menu and then installing an official RUU Rom from there? Worked for me once I (semi)bricked the phone. Just run the .exe file from your pc with the usb attached so that the phone is in fastboot usb mode. Edited December 12, 2009 by tristan202
Guest BoogWeed Posted December 12, 2009 Report Posted December 12, 2009 I had all the previous MCR ROMs & Radios still in the root of my SDcard and I tried installing 2.5 which actually worked, so my phone is booting up as normal now. So I'm currently running MCR2.5 but I'm still having trouble with the touch screen. I think I'm going to unr-oot, install the official Tmobile UK RUU and send my phone in for repair/swap unless someone has any other suggestions?
Guest BoogWeed Posted December 12, 2009 Report Posted December 12, 2009 I've had no luck with the touch screen.... ;) So I've just installed: RUU_Hero_T-Mobile_UK_2.73.110.26_release_signed_NoDriver on my Hero. The phone is reporting the following: Model Number: T-Mobile G2 Touch Firmware version: 1.5 Baseband version: 63.18.55.0FU_6.35.07.08 Kernel version: 2.6.27-0078c992 htc-kernel@and18-2 #821 Build number: 2.73.11.26 CL#69351 release-keys Software version: 1.0.0.A6288 Can someone please confirm if this is OK to go back to T-mobile for exchange/repair?

Guest fmatic Posted March 19, 2010 Report Posted March 19, 2010 (edited) had the same issues with my touchscreen couple weeks ago. Sent it to HTC for repair, now everything is working fine again. Had the almost same issue. Never dropped my phone and handle it always with care. Suddenly today when I press menu button screen goes black. I think it was a normal crash and pull out battery for reboot. Device rebooted normally but when it comes to SIM Unlock screen there was only empty boxes without numbers so I again pull out battery and now phone stucks in Hero splash screen. If I boot up with pressing down HOME and Power nothing happens...it just again HERO Splash. When I press BACK and Power in FASTBOOT-menu there is TOUCH PANEL-failed. I think my touch screen is broken or there is some other things totally messed up (???) but what confused me is why I cannot access recovery mode with HOME + Power. I want to restore stock ROM to test if it's help? Edited March 19, 2010 by fmatic
