ephemeris download?

Hi guys.

The "ephemeris download" option in "Security & location"... is that A-GPS? If so, I there any reason I wouldn't want it enabled?

yes afaik its for the device or applications to quicker be able to determine your location.

To my understanding it works like some sort of positioningcaching.

Try to turn it on then wait a few and then try googlemaps, it will instantly show your location.

Why have they called it ephemeris, and not a-gps that everyone knows, nobody will understand this....

Exactly. I know what a-GPS is but I've never heard Edermatitis...or whatever LOL

Ephemeris is data that shows where each gps satellite should be throughout the day

standard gps receivers use almanac data...

When I enable ephemeris data the phone doesn't get my position, or takes a long long time, so long that i never see it finish

Work as a-gps usually do on my Liquid, very quick fix even indoors.

Thats odd, i have exactly the opposite behaviour! Ephemeris data allows my phone to locate where i am quickly (as you would expect it to!)
