December 2009: T-Mobile Pulse software update

This update helps improve the stability of the Pulse and the quality of audio. Before you apply this update, you need to have:

- A backup of your data - the update will wipe your phone. Data you sync with Gmail can be re-sync'd after the update, but other data e.g. SMS, media etc... should be backed up.

- A fully charged battery

- A Micro SD memory card with more than 256mb of free space you can copy the update to

Then follow the steps below to update your phone:

  1. Download the update file
  2. Unzip the file U8220V100R001GBRC85B118 SP01 with_Userdata.zip to a location of your choice on your computer
  3. Copy the files you just unzipped (the “dload” folder and all its contents) to the root directory of your MICRO SD card
  4. Insert your MICRO SD card into the handset
  5. On your Pulse, go to the Main menu, then select Settings

  6. Within Settings select SD card & phone storage
  7. Scroll down, under the Internal phone storage section select Upgrade
  8. The upgrade process will give you several warnings which you need to confirm to continue
  9. Then press the Upgrade option to begin the update
  10. As the update progresses you will see several screens along with a progress bar
  11. Once complete you will see a confirmation screen, and your Pulse will automatically restart
  12. Once restarted your Pulse will be up to date with the latest software

Just be careful about flashing this. Maepro had flashed an update from the German T-Mobile site and from the looks of it he is having problems getting any other ROM to flash again properly. This may just lock you into t-mobile updates from now on.

it's an ".APP" file. I was gonna investigate but it stumped me =[

I took the update

Will test camera etc soon.

[EDIT]

Camera:

Took a series of 20 images, no lines appeared.

Portrait images still get rotated to landscape.

No Geo-tagging.

Barcode Scanner - Works (Always did for me though)

Google Sync:

Contacts - All or nothing, not able to select group of Contacts.

Mail - Push seems to be working better.

If you want anything else checking let me know, I'm due to wipe my PC soon, will then start re-rooting the Pulse.

Baseband looks to be the same, so no reason why I can't just extract this update and build MCR 1.5 on it...

Maybe you could pull the Google Sync stuff from the u8230, having all or nothing contacts sync is a pain in the a**

Agreed, that is the main reason i went to the 1.1 custom ROM, preffer the pulse UI but cant have all my google contacts just too many.

I just tried installer superboot (to get root) and the recovery image, now in endless reboot.

Does anyone know if shopsavvy now works with this update?

You have to use the kernel from the new T-Mob Rom. Than it will work again!

Is it possible to extract something out of the APP file?

I wonder why the custom kernel is making it reboot? ;)

didn't we have to throw some RIL lib files in the system img?

I'll have a look later on...

There's no way I'm getting back to the magenta look ;)

I hope if there are any updated libs, those can be extracted and shipped to a new 8230 version ROM.

I second that.

Can anyone comment on the improved audio quality. Does it get rid of the hiss from the loudspeaker?

does this fix the bug when your listening or watching something on e.g. youtube then suddenly it starts to play your music from your library, that bug is really annoying

Has this been confirmed?

Seems to have been confirmed a few posts back by Klutsh ;) I'd wait until the bugs with recovery and/or rooting are sorted out.

I have the new update but it's hard to say if it has any effect on battery life as it only came out today.
