Extract boot.img and recovery.img

I tried to do do this with pearl scripts available for dump and rebuild boot.img.Some how can dump the boot.img-kernel.gz and boot.img-ramdisk.cpio.gz

how ever, cannot extract these further.May be small direction/guide can help.Also anyone know how to extract contents of system.img
