Acer Support Sucks

I rang ACER support to query the missing CD their only response was return the unit for repair !

I then asked about the voicemail number problem and the screen resolution change problem and they said return it for repair.

When I said I didn't want to return it as it was a software fault they said contact your retailer.

Couple that with the complete lack of support on the website and its not a great experience.

I've just emailed Clove about the missing software. Maybe they can do something about it seeing as they are selling these phones without the required software. My emails to Acer have so far been unanswered. Fortunately i don't have that screen res problem otherwise i would be angry! I also don't have an issue with voicemail i think (what problems are you having?)

I'm having the voicemail problem too (guessing its the same problem as rocky7)

settings -> call settings -> voicemail ... It doesn't let you save a number.

However it seems to be an Android problem, not an acer one.. as other people have reported it too on their non-liquid phones on the net.

that is bizzare. It seems to save it for me.

I typed in 101, hit ok. When i go back and look it still says that. What does setting the voicemail number do? As in what uses this number?

Calls were forwarded to voicemail without setting that.

The only use I've found for it (so far) is.. it'll link it to "1" on the dialler as a speed dial to your voice mail.

I tried 333 (as I'm with 3) and wouldn't accept it.

That is odd... It works perfectly for me!

Have you tried +61333 instead?

What version ROM are you running? (i'm on Acer_Liquid_1.002.05_EMEA_GEN1)

Could it be an issue with having root access? (I haven't rooted my phone yet, have you?)

Also, try putting on 101. Does it accept that? Maybe it is something to do with the 3 simcard...Maybe android tries to verify the number? I have no idea, just shooting in the dark. It should be fixable though, as mine works.

Yep tried 333, tried the full +61 number too.

Tried 101.

All have the same unsuccessful problem.

Haven't rooted, 100% stock.

Same exact ROM as you.

EDIT: have you got anything in the option below the voicemail one, subscriber number?

Hmm that is odd...

I have my phone number in the subscriber number box (it says "My Phone Number" and then the small text description below is "Set subscriber number").

Didn't use country code. Just put 04********

Do your missed calls get forwarded to your voicemail?

yeah they go through to voicemail 100% fine.

Let me try the 04xxxxxx method now.

EDIT: still no go.. maybe I should try a factory reset and start again?

Now that your phone number is entered, try rebooting, then entering 333 in voicemail box. Thats all i can think of...oh i have a wifi connection enabled and my phone network connection disabled...but i doubt any of that will help.

same result ;)

EDIT: just did a full reset (clean reboot) & same issue so its not me.

Some issue with Android & 3 I guess.

hmm. Only thing i can suggest is trying to get hold of a telstra sim (which is what i'm using) from a friend or something. See if you can set the voicemail to 101 with that inserted. If you can, i guess its some incompatability between 3 and android. If you can't, it must be a program you've installed that is stopping you from setting it...

Hope you sort it out!

just means I can't use '1' on the dialler for anything...

maybe android 2.0 might fix the issue

Got a polite message from Clove saying that they are sorry Acer were so rude and unhelpful when I spoke to them and they are going to contact ACER directly and let me know.

Like I said, I can't type "901", which is my voicemail number... don't think it's anything to do with the number "3"... my guess is that's it's checking the number to see if it has a country code on it or something...

when he said 3 he meant the mobile carrier "three mobile" ;)

I didn't need to put in a country code. I'm in the same country as daft, just on a different provider. Seems like either it is checking with some data on the sim, or there is a program installed preventing the change

I am on three oz and can't set my voicemail number through the settings.

Just do what I did.... Download Anycut from the Market and set your own homepage shortcut to voicemail, so now I just hit my voicemail icon on the homepage and it dials ;)

Here is the reply i got from Clove re the driver CD

Thank you for the email.

We have read the manual which is supplied with a Acer Liquid and in both case the companion CD is referred to for the installation of drivers to be able to make a connection to a computer. Have you been able to connect the Acer Liquid to your computer and synchronize it? If you are able to, this may suggest that the companion CD is no longer required and this is likely a misprint.

Regards

Clove Technology

As you can imagine i'm rather unhappy with this. So i wrote back and said that no, it did not work without the drivers!! hopefully they will do something.

It might help if other people could also email clove asking for the driver CD cause at the moment they don't seem to believe that you need one as Acer didn't include it....

I have the same (voicemail number) problem with my Liquid on Vodafone, Netherlands and I think it has something to do with the SIM itself. The Liquid (or Android in general) wants to store the voicemailnumber on a reserved location on the SIM just like the subscriber number, but I start to suspect that not all SIM's have this voicemail location. My SIM card is quite old and survived several contract updates and migrations (I guess it's 8 years old now). Might that form a clue?

I suspect that when I'd ask Vodafone for a replacement SIM the voicemail problem would be solved and I will do that after my Liquid has returned from exchange (which is a different story altogether).

interesting. My Sim is 2 years old and can store the voicemail number. Are people having trouble using sims much older than that?

It probably is sim dependent, but no guarantee that a new sim will fix the problem.

That is the only link found so far. I'm with Telstra, Australia and have no troubles.

two people with 3, Australia have trouble.

One person Vodaphone, UK has trouble.

Not sure about the rest ;)

could be the SIM card, as you indicate. Mine is 6 months old, after having replaced my former one which 4 yrs old before it became unstable. I'm using Liquid with PROXIMUS SIM (purchased one week ago), didn't have to do anything, voicemail phone nr got setup normally. And it works fine.
