Guest saverio Posted December 16, 2009 Report Posted December 16, 2009 I'm counting down, Only two months to go! ... Till my contract with Vodafone comes to an end and finally I'm released from this painful phone! I can honestly say that I've really enjoyed owning the Omnia, however what i haven't enjoyed is the pain that is windows mobile, and Samsung's atrocious customer support. My friends have HTC phones running winmo and android and also some have the iPhone, and i've got to say, that HTC seem to support their products really well. I've disliked the way the phone keeps telling me that it's low on storage space even though i've got it by the bucket load and all those other horrible niggles that really get on your tits in so many ways which MS could have smoothed and revised with constant updates. I can see so clearly why HTC have decided to only release 3 winmo devices next year, and throw everything behind Android. Will Windows7 be any better? Who cares, I've had my fingers burnt with winmo and i'll be going android or iPhone. If Microsoft want me to have faith in WM7, then they'd better tell device mfr's to just roll out a new rom, or better still let me download it direct from MS, (I mean c'mon, Samsung still hasn't got a vista / 7 installer for the omnia roms, and XP was replaced before the omnia ever came out!). What I won't be doing is purchasing / signing to another winmo device until I know it won't have... issues. Now I know that people preach on here that winmo is just a starting point and that you need to tweak it... rubbish. You need to tweak it to make it have the stability and functionality it should have had out of the box. I choose to build my PC from component parts and 'tweak' it to make it work properly and with stability. I don't build my phone out of components, so I just expect it to work. I used to pay through the nose for overpriced apple macs for the same reason, I accepted that it just worked - not because it was any better by any stretch than a normal pc, but because I knew that as a hardware manufacturer apple OS on apple hardware did not give me any headaches; my hackintosh installation however always presents me with 'challenges' - but then again like my pc, I expect it and accept that is part of the deal with such undertakings. I think had the rom revisions been more forthcoming, had perhaps Android been ported officially by Samsung and made available as an official alternative, perhaps I'd have warmed to the omnia more, but mow it's just annoying, from the little afterthought dangly stylus to the annoying ascending ring and keypad lock when you're talking, I can honestly say that february can't come quickly enough. I don't know what i'll get, but it definitely won't be a samsung and definitely won't run Windows Mobile.
Guest kdkinc Posted December 16, 2009 Report Posted December 16, 2009 +1 (almost) ? I agree 99% of all you said. When I saw the Omnia2 amoiled screen i was sold. Then I saw the BORING Samsung UI,gag me with a spoon.. ;) . I do hope the HTC does come out with the off again then on again Passion/Bravo whatever for Android soon for the VZW network. I think the Nexus ,swell name, will pass on quickly. Following the phone rumor mill is almost as much fun as is flashing to the newest rom. ;) ;)
Guest eufouria Posted December 17, 2009 Report Posted December 17, 2009 Amen to that, sadly I have another year with this phone, but I can easily say this will be my last windows mobile 6 device. I have a lot of hope for WM7, as I believe they understand that they need to win a lot of people back. I cannot help but parallel the situation to vista-w7, under pressure microsoft really proved its worth. However WM7 still doesn't even have a rough release date and I have yet to hear of a bad thing about android (other than security which isn't my biggest concern). Well, here's to andromnia!
Guest Unisoldrew Posted December 19, 2009 Report Posted December 19, 2009 I jumped ship to iPhone a couple of weeks ago and haven't looked back! The iPhone is amazing! Can't fault anything about it, except perhaps the camera - although have not really used it much yet. It became clear how poor the Omnia 'was' when I took all my info off it before sending it off to my mobile supplier for cash back (£140+VAT!!) Windows Mobile - never again.
