Guest uk786 Posted December 18, 2009 Report Posted December 18, 2009 It is confirmed, I believe, most likely out in Jan
Guest Rubber Ducky Posted December 21, 2009 Report Posted December 21, 2009 May I ask why they wait for 2.1 instead of just releasing 2.0 and give an OTA update to 2.1? If they go on like this they might just as well wait for 3.0.

Guest Rubber Ducky Posted December 21, 2009 Report Posted December 21, 2009 more work. How is that going to be more work for HTC? Release 2.0 > Wait for Google to release 2.1 and let them deliver it OTA. OTA updates are released by Google, right?

OTA updates are released by Google, right? What about HTC Sense? What about other features unique to the Hero? When Google release an update, it's purely to the Android OS. HTC have to put a lot of work into making sure that all the extras that come with the Hero still work under a new version of Android.

I don't think 2.1 differs that much from 2.0. HTC Sense should already be finished by now (I mean, they had like 2 months already). And if HTC doesn't want to port Sense every time, why not just release Android 2.0 or 2.1 without Sense (it serves no purpose really, except the fact that you have more homescreens and a fancy clock with weather animations).

There will be differences under the hood that matter. I've seen screenshots of the new Sense UI so maybe HTC are almost there. As far as Sense UI goes, don't forget that it's not all about the pretty homescreens. What about Facebook integration? One of my favourite features of the Hero is that it pulls in photos of all my contacts automatically.

Don't get me wrong here, I like the Hero, but updates always seem to take a long time. T-Mobile NL more or less promissed us Android 1.6 -> Didn't happen HTC promised us Android 2.0 -> Didn't happen Like I said before, if Google updates Android every month or so, we can wait forever for a new update from HTC.
Guest cezent Posted December 23, 2009 Report Posted December 23, 2009 The new HTC handsets will be rolled out soon, perhaps they are just waiting to give the old hero a sales boost right before the new ones to be put on shelves.

Oh well, I'm used to the waiting (LG and Samsung are even worse and their support is BAD). HTC support is way better (send an email with questions about update and got a reply within 2 days). Eventually Android 2.x will come to us Hero users.
