Super Optimized Rosie?

I came across this thread today.

http://androidforums.com/htc-magic/8576-ho...n-hero-rom.html

There is a link to a "Super Optimized" Rosie. Apparently shrunk in size from 4MB to 700KB! I tried to install it to no avail. Mind you, the thread is related to the Magic.

Has anybody ever heard of this "Super Optimized Rosie"? Is there a version that will run on MCR3.0?

I'd like to know more about this, can anyone confirm that the process for removing HTC Sync on that link is legit ?

I tried it. Wouldn't run. Even did the UID thing from RA Recovery. Would boot into regular Android home screen and HomeSwitcher could not even see it.

I saw something a little while back (i.e. earlier) which implies it might be for G1s only...who knows! (still, at least you did a backup!)

The original post is here;

It's from July 3rd, so odds of it behaving properly on current Hero builds are dubious, it certainly doesn't work here. The methods he's used sound pretty straightforward though, I'll try my luck doing some of the same things with the current Hero version. I've got PandaHome as a backup if it doesn't load, so no biggy.

Pretty much all they've done is remove the extra wallpapers and optimise the .PNG files. Doing that on the current Rosie drops it down to 920KB for me (down from 4.8MB). Need to resign the file though which I'm still working on.

I can't image there'd be almost any benefit with the combination of CompCache and the app being on the SD Card due to A2SD anyway, so it's likely a fairly pointless procedure.

I tried editing the existing one and replacing it, no joy, repackaged it as an unsigned .apk, it wouldn't find that either. I've got the unlocked .spl so it _shouldn't_ be too worried if it's unsigned. Any more competent people able to take a look at doing this if it is in fact worthwhile to knock ~3MB off the Rosie UI app?

Maybe it's worthwhile optimizing the images in some of the other apps as well, or is it only going to be onboard storage that benefits?

Its really strange, if I'm using the original Rosie.apk just extracting the files and creating a new zip file with 7zip and resigning it..doesn't work, maybe an issue with the 7zip options?
