Messaging application problem

Does anyone know how to fix this problem. I was composing a message earlier using the messaging app and it crashed and forced me to close the app. Now I can't get back into the app no matter if I restart the phone, take battery out etc. I am still in the out of the box rom etc.

The error message I get is the following;

The application Messaging (process com.andriod.mms) has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again
