Guest setomoto Posted December 19, 2009 Report Posted December 19, 2009 Well, I know that I have to find the places in Maps that actually HAVE the street view, i know that much. BUT, when I open up a place that does have street view, and after clicking on it, I just got the plain old map w/ my location on it but don't get that cool street view. Do I have to be in the actual location to use street view?
Guest three_pineapples Posted December 19, 2009 Report Posted December 19, 2009 Ok, Here is how you get street view. Zoom into the location you want to street view. Long press on the location you want to view (eg a building on the road. Once the address of the location shows up, tap the address in the bubble. This will bring up a menu (in black) with a street view option ;)

Guest three_pineapples Posted December 20, 2009 Report Posted December 20, 2009 That is odd as it works perfectly for me. Have you updated your maps recently from the market (i think there is an update tab somewhere or maybe just search for google maps). I have updated from the one that came with my liquid so maybe that is the issue?

Like i said, i know how to get the street view option when the location is available, but it's just that when i tap on it, only the regular top-view map shows up. when it worked for you, were you standing in the actual location where street view is available? cuz i was just really flying through the maps of other places to see those street views.
Guest three_pineapples Posted December 20, 2009 Report Posted December 20, 2009 they were reasonably local location (the main city 30 min drive away) in a regional area. Though i'm fairly sure i tried it out on a street in another state and it worked fine. I really don't know what to suggest ;) I have latitude on, GPS on (with ephermeris downloads enabled). I'm doing this via a wifi connection. None of that should matter, but i may as well let you know what settings i have on. Very bizarre!
Guest tomdotcom Posted December 21, 2009 Report Posted December 21, 2009 Street view doesn't work for me either. It appears the app thinks it's in the street view mode, (I have to press BACK in order to exit out of that mode), however it map view remains.
Guest chingy1788 Posted December 22, 2009 Report Posted December 22, 2009 (edited) Any solution to this? I'm running Acer_Liquid_1.001.05_AAP_CSL unrooted Edited December 22, 2009 by chingy1788
Guest WVGA Posted December 22, 2009 Report Posted December 22, 2009 Any solution to this? I'm running Acer_Liquid_1.001.05_AAP_CSL unrooted Please people start giving us your country network (& OS versions) because you must know vendors have agreements with google about their apps granting them some of the features. Let's say it is possible for HTC to distribute Gmaps on their devices in UK & Roumania. The same version of the device, same google maps software downloaded on the market and still, no street view or latitude in romania even though available for users in UK. This is in google terms & agreements with vendor. Has impacts on royalties etc. I assume it is the problem here. Actually, I can tell you GMaps street view works perfectly in France, UK & Benelux on Acer Liquid. Don't know for the rest of the world. Please, share your locations. Thanks a lot.

It would be no surprise for me to see such limitations in China for example...
Guest chingy1788 Posted December 22, 2009 Report Posted December 22, 2009 (edited) In Australia :) on Three worked fine on my G1 Edited December 22, 2009 by chingy1788
Guest WVGA Posted December 22, 2009 Report Posted December 22, 2009 In Australia :) worked fine on my G1 Ok, but not necessarily proving me wrong since the limitation is agreed by Google & Vendor. Hence, one google service might be available on HTC devices, not on Samsung or Acer. Anyone can contact support to check if what I am suggesting is the cause ?

I do not know how this is not working in Australia. I have this document I cannot share, speaking of Google Geo Services Availability, official launch & use limitation on specific countries. To summarize : Googles apps are fully usable in Australia. In Hong Kong, they are not fully released, so for instance, Street View can be used based on World Wide version only on devices which are also shipped in at least ONE country where the service is officially & fully released. Since you seem to be using an operator custom rom for your Liquid, I doubt it will be shipped elsewhere, hence, you will not be granted access to Street View service. If you have any questions on countries, please ask.
Guest chingy1788 Posted December 22, 2009 Report Posted December 22, 2009 (edited) Ah... sigh... so theres no way to enable street view at this point in time? without rooting or flashing to another rom that is... About flashing to another rom... Can I just dump any other rom onto my liquid? or is there something that will cause problems if I flash a European rom onto my HK Liquid? Edited December 22, 2009 by chingy1788
Guest setomoto Posted December 23, 2009 Report Posted December 23, 2009 I am using an unlocked Hong Kong market Liquid, IN Hong Kong. Technically, it is not China, and with the option of "street view" actually being available for me, i kinda expect it to work. I don't believe HK has any regional restrictions as such, because I can access all kinds of website and even street view in a desktop browser. I have everything in gps-related enabled: wireless networks, gps (duh), share with google and ephemeris download. I also have background data sync enabled as well... what else could i be doing wrong? are all HK market-liquids like this?
Guest chingy1788 Posted December 23, 2009 Report Posted December 23, 2009 I've asked the guy i bought it from He says street view is only available in the US, and that he'll double check on that meh if you have the HK rom and I have the HK rom and we both cant use street view, thats probably the reason I'd flash to another rom, but no one answers my questions... Just need confirmation that it wont kill my phone or complicate things when going from HK rom to a Euro Rom
Guest three_pineapples Posted December 23, 2009 Report Posted December 23, 2009 Street view works for me in Australia on Telstra. My liquid OS is 1.002.005 It is NOT an australian problem. It MAY be a carrier problem or a carrier + phone problem. Best bet (for those in australia) is to borrow a telstra sim and check. Doing this will determine if it is a network incompatibility or a software one caused by some other application. Same goes for people in other countries. Borrow a sim from someone on a network that has been confirmed to work with street view.
Guest chingy1788 Posted December 24, 2009 Report Posted December 24, 2009 Yeah pineapples has a different rom. Hence it works. Hk rom has street view blocked Again... I ask us it safe for me to use the euro rom on my hk phone
Guest three_pineapples Posted December 24, 2009 Report Posted December 24, 2009 Probably easiest way to find out of it is ok is to read through and then post in the pinned thread of ROMs on this forum :)
Guest Charlton22 Posted December 24, 2009 Report Posted December 24, 2009 Mine works, 1.002.05_EMEA_GEN1 & I'm from Malta! "Melita -- As provider" I'm sure that 99% of you don't know where it is, but yes, it exists :) Had to order the Liquid from abroad"Clove", but no prob with that!
Guest WVGA Posted December 27, 2009 Report Posted December 27, 2009 I've asked the guy i bought it from He says street view is only available in the US, and that he'll double check on that meh if you have the HK rom and I have the HK rom and we both cant use street view, thats probably the reason I'd flash to another rom, but no one answers my questions... Just need confirmation that it wont kill my phone or complicate things when going from HK rom to a Euro Rom I do not know enough about Hardware to be 100% sure that it will not mess up your device. The only problem I could see appear if you flash to EMEA ROM are : 1) connexion profiles could not be properly (maybe not at all) implemented in EMEA Rom for HK operators 2) Language might not be either (traditional chinese not available for example), even though I guess official language is English (along with Chinese) 3) if any hardware is different between the two Liquids (the EMEA one, the HK one) for example on GSM module (E.G. CDMA in USA for certain operators, UMTS/WCDMA in Europe) you will miss the right drivers for your Liquid to work properly... If anybody can give precisions on those issues, then you'll be fine to flash. But anyways, I guess you'll still be able to go back to your HK ROM if you encounter any trouble with your EMEA ROM on HK Liquid...
Guest navygino Posted December 28, 2009 Report Posted December 28, 2009 Just flashed my 1.001.05-AAP-CSL machine into 1.004.00-EMEA-GEN1... Successfully get into the street view.... That means something strange with the CSL ROM....
Guest chingy1788 Posted December 29, 2009 Report Posted December 29, 2009 CSL ROM is from Hong Kong and they seller said, street view is blocked in HK so... fair enough CSL is probably the china version of the rom or something
Guest navygino Posted December 29, 2009 Report Posted December 29, 2009 CSL ROM is from Hong Kong and they seller said, street view is blocked in HK so... fair enough CSL is probably the china version of the rom or something It is not regionally "blocked" in HK/China as I can still get into the street view with the Euro ROM. There is something strange in the CSL ROM, which maybe there is something we can workaround?
