Hi,

about the pictures I haven't much to say, the omnia camera could perform much better IMHO, but its performance is badly limited by the stupid camera software included.

I.e.: I made picture with ISO 50 and f2.8 during the day, keeping in mind that the ISO was set as AUTO (I have the pako camera driver installed through the s0cks cab though), an intelligent sw can't decide to use an aperture as wide as 2.8. 2.8 is often not even used on professional lens, unless they cost a good amount of money, imagine to use it on a plastic lens...it should have used an ISO 100 and f3.2 at least...But it looks like there isn't much around, I even gave a look at the SDK and it looks like it's not possible to have the aperture control, just only the ISO control.

About the video performance I can't understand instead what the video recording fps is supposed to be at 640x480. it's really 8fps? Useless...

At last: have you ever tried to take videos during a concert? how do you avoid to register audio completely distorted?!

Thank you for your suggestions

It's a phone remember, not a dedicated video and camera device. There of course will be some downfalls. The photos I take seem to be of reasonable quality. The video on the other hand get out of sync at 640x480 so I lowered it.

Well I didn't say I'm expecting the quality of my DSLR I said that the sw is limiting the real power of the omnia camera and that's a shame.

About the video, well, I find weird that an unusable option is available, anyway I'm wondering if it's possible to find a solution to avoid omnia to distort the recorded sound when it's from a very loud source.

Video at 640 is not useless... just use it at the right times, daylight for example. i've gotten solid video staying above 20FPS, its not that bad, the max is 24, and under bad lighting or alot of movement it can't keep. it did a good job while i was driving at 30mph one time.

its not really a software issue, sure a small bit of it, its the fact its a cellphone camera. the sensor is crap for that reason, but as far as cell cameras go, we got ourselves a pretty damn good one.

the sensor is not that bad, I really think it does a better job than the old fujifilm s5600 that was a decent bridge at its time.

It's of course the lens to be crap, but I still need to understand if the aperture is fixed (f-2.8) or it can actually change, because if it's change, it's the software to decide which setting to use.

ok, my bad, the aperture is fixed to f2.8 and that could be also obvious because the lens doesn't have any diaphragm.

Knowing so, well we can say that the lens is by sure worse than the sensor itself, but most of all, I can chill-out and enjoy my phone.

I just hope the next time I'd like to take some video during a gig, I can have some better audio quality.

If you update to WM6.5 and run XCPU Scalar, you can pull some quite-decent 640x480 video. Use external power if it's an option.

Have to agree, it is just a fonecamera. However, omnia's quality is not as good as SE K750/K800, though they are lack of pixel.

i own a k850i and an omnia, they both have good cameras but IMHO i think the k850i has a better one, since it can focus much faster and take quite good pics in poor light conditions while the omnia is almost hopeless in poor lighting. besides the k850i has xenon flash and focus assist light. u might say that the omnia has focus assist light as well but i think there is an overexposure with the light and i think it is placed too near to the lens. both take good pics for a camera on a fone during good lighting.i dont thnik we should expect amazing quality from this device since it is not primarily a capturing device, its first and foremost a fone and PDA. concerning video, i dont really use it because i dont expect much from it.

well, absolutely it must be used only for "emergency" cases :)

Yesterday night I made a picture with a sgh u700

much better performance than the Omnia.

Then I realized what the technical problem is. The Omnia flash acts like a torch not like a flash, so the metering system can't blend the background with the foreground, resulting in an image with the flashy portrait and the dark background.

To have a right metering, the flash light must last a "flash"...this is disapointing.

Abosultely. Also, SE uses redlight to measure the distance between the cam and the object to execute the correct shutterspeed. Omnia has st wrong with the shutterspeed and it produces fake iso. seriously i found st on net that they say omnia cam has 2 censors (really?), but 1 is hardware based and 1 is software based (this is where the problem is). I have no idea how to mod these dll drivers and so disappointed.
