Hi, I just installed the MoDaCo 3.0 on my HTC Hero using the how-to guide (I used Flashrec instead of command prompt) I am step 9 of the guide: waiting but am worried that something has gone wrong. The htc logo is on the screen but then it switches back to the word 'Hero' with the green android popping out from all over the place. Is this normal?

If you have waited more than 15min. it is not normal. Then there is not much options, than just take of the battery and make a nandroid Restore. Should work. It has done that to me too and nothing serious never happend, when I took the battery off. But make sure you have waited enough!

your bootscreen is looping, it means you didnt do a complete wipe before you installed MCR 3.0. Do a nandroid restore and wipe all your settings THEN flash the ROM.

Tried a nandroid restore and it says that it cannot run it. I will have the exact phrasing when I try it again. Anyway when I rebooted from a battery pull, the device was running on MDC 3.0 and seemed OK. Is this normal?

not really. if i were you i'd wipe and flash the rom once more. don't do a nandroid restore before.

the nandroid error happens if you don't have an ext partition on your sdcard, the restoration of the internal memory works nevertheless.

OK then, when I go into the menus after starting up holding home+power the wipe option, wipe/factory reset takes merely seconds and whenever I try to load ROM from sd it now only takes a minute or two and boots up incredibly quickly.

Any idea if this is OK or is there a mega full wipe I can do to get back to the slow install?

the wipe options are meant to go through in a few seconds. if you install a rom (mcr3.0) for example it should take a few (maybe 2-3) minutes. if you install only the enhanced pack or a bootscreen for example it also takes only a few seconds. make sure you get the core download which is around 90mb filesize. then try again to wipe, flash and boot. if the flashing takes ~2 minutes and the first boot ~4-5minutes you know you did it right. make sure you have only the files on the sdcard you need, so you won't get confused.

So if I format my SD card and start again I will be able to follow the how-to again and basically overwrite the current set up on the phone?

nobody said anything about formatting the sdcard, but probably you are better off if you do it.

Oh damn, well I had already done it but that doesn't matter. I'm going to try to start over as you suggested.

BTW I am sorry to keep on bothering you guys on the forum but I have 2 more quick questions.

1) Is updating the radio the same process as installing a custom ROM (i.e. Recovery thing and use the update from sd?) and should I update the radio before or after the ROM?

2) If I wished to go to a different ROM would I simply enter the recovery menu again and install from a new ROM (i.e The 2.1 version ROM) renamed update.zip?

Yeah, just install as same as any update.zip. And in my experience I haven`t noticed any difference which is better to install first. I guess it no matters. The radio (which you have in that moment) will stay anyway there, even you make someday a Nandroid Restore.

Formatting the SD card is not "necessary", but if you follow my how-to (for example) then you will format via Amon Ra recovery, which sets you up for Apps2SD - which is nice, but (again) not necessary.

1) Yes - download a zip, and apply it. Note my how-to again, you will see a possibly worrying screen with a phone, box and arrow and no progress indicator. I went "eek" when I first saw that - but it's ok....(just ensure you flash the right radio - i.e. GSM radio for GSM, CDMA for CDMA etc)

2) Yes - but always nandroid backup first - and ALWAYS check the ROM you install, as it MAY overwrite the recovery image (unlikely) - but most custom ROMs wont - but the latest HTC RUU update, will - then you wind up with a harder job going back to custom.
