Writing to SD card

I notice that the instructions for applying the Dec Update say to "write the dload folder (contents and all) to the root of the SD card."

Later instructions imply that the card must be removed to do this. Is there really no way to write to the root of the SD card while it is inserted into the phone? I don't think I have anything else that will take this teeny tiny card to write to it.

Thx

EDIT: I did already try writing the dload folder to the USB-mounted device from Win7, but Upgrade says data not detected

Reboot your phone into bootloader mode (turn off and then hold volume down/red key/tap on key) and then plug into your laptop/computer, it becomes a drive under windows xp, copy the files and then remove battery/re-insert to take out of bootloader mode.

There might be other ways but thats how I do it

Thank you!

Alas, under Windows 7 I don't get a drive to write to, although I do get "Device Manager->ADB Interface->Android Sooner Single ADB Interface".

Any other ideas?

OK. I sussed it. No reboots needed.

- Plug the USB cable in

- On the device, pull the notifications tab down and select "Mount USB"

- (If you're on Windows 7, you will need to have installed the PC Suite, and then Start -> Computer -> Properties -> Device Manager; find the Android device, and select "Update Drivers". Select the /Program Files/PC Suite/drivers/vista)

- You now have a new drive to write to; copy the "dload" folder there.

- The crucial bit I missed - now unmount the USB drive so that the phone can see the SD card!!

- Now you can go to Settings -> SD Card -> Upgrade.

I hope this helps someone else.
