Guest Dan Mullen Posted December 23, 2009 Report Posted December 23, 2009 Forgive me if this has been answered already, but I'm a little confused. My brother has just received a T-Mobile Pulse and I've advised him to stick MCR on there. I've read a bit about putting the AMON-RA recovery image on there, but I'm not sure about this December update that's just been released. I've read that applying that update prevents you from flashing future ROMs, but then it says in the MCR T-Mobile Style thread that you need to have the December update in order to flash v1.6. Could someone please tell me what steps to take with an out-of-the-box Pulse in order to switch to MCR? Thanks, Dan

Thanks, Dan It in the instructions for 1.6 but here goes anyway, this is just the order follow the instruction in the first post of 1.6 MCR thread for exact details. 1. Official tmobile December upgrade. 2. Amon-ra 1.5.1 recovery image 3. MCR 1.6 Don't worry about not being able to flash other ROMs after the Official Dec update as everything that was available with the old ROMs has been incorporated in the new ones plus other improvements. Expect anything coming out from now on to require the Dec update.

Sounds straightforward then - he's getting an 8GB card today so I'm going to partition that and sort his phone out tonight. Out of interest, what would you say are the main noticeable improvements over the stock ROM? Is it generally faster? I'm over the moon with my Hero since I put MCR on :)
Guest Dan Mullen Posted December 23, 2009 Report Posted December 23, 2009 Sorry to confuse things; I did 2 before 1 in order to get a nandroid backup before applying the upgrade. Right, I'll probably backup first too :)
Guest JingleManSweep Posted December 23, 2009 Report Posted December 23, 2009 We are trying to assemble a wiki page with help and guides on how to apply ROMs/updates, as well as other useful information: http://wiki.modaco.com/index.php/Huawei_U8220
Guest david_dawkins Posted December 23, 2009 Report Posted December 23, 2009 (edited) ... Out of interest, what would you say are the main noticeable improvements over the stock ROM? ... I'm definitely noticing a call quality improvement (sound of caller). Other people (Paul included) have logged their experiences elsewhere. Dave EDIT: Talking about the Dec update - haven't done the MCR yet Edited December 23, 2009 by david_dawkins
Guest Shuflie Posted December 23, 2009 Report Posted December 23, 2009 Sorry to confuse things; I did 2 before 1 in order to get a nandroid backup before applying the upgrade. Not wanting to be stupid or anything but why a nandroid backup of an out of the box phone before applying the December upgrade?
Guest giryan Posted December 23, 2009 Report Posted December 23, 2009 Not wanting to be stupid or anything but why a nandroid backup of an out of the box phone before applying the December upgrade? And I didn't think that a nandroid backup from before the December upgrade would work after it?
Guest david_dawkins Posted December 23, 2009 Report Posted December 23, 2009 Not wanting to be stupid or anything but why a nandroid backup of an out of the box phone before applying the December upgrade? Everything I've read here advises "do a nandroid backup" first. Was it pointless then? Even though stock roms are downloadable, wouldn't the backup have contained my contacts and installed apps?
Guest david_dawkins Posted December 23, 2009 Report Posted December 23, 2009 And I didn't think that a nandroid backup from before the December upgrade would work after it? Now that I didn't know. Are you sure? I thought I'd read a thread where someone was suspected of screwing up their Dec upgrade, and so it was advised to remove SD card, reinstall a stock rom, and that point I'd be able to use my backup (which contains contacts and installed apps).
