Omnia i910 - wifi and installing things

Hi guys,

I've been finding a lot of good info on this site, but there are some things that I just can't seem to grasp with the Omnia that I picked up.

1) Installing things. How the hell do I actually do this? I found the nodata app, and it sounded like I need to just put the .cab file on the phone and open it through the file explorer. Except...when I drop it onto my phone via USB (going through windows explorer), it never actually shows up anywhere on the phone. Am I missing some big, obvious step?

2) Wifi. It just doesn't work. It refuses to connect to the router two feet away that has no security whatsoever. The password protected router in the other room, however, seems to work. I can put in the password, it'll start working away, and then the status changes to "connected". Except...Opera and IE still give me nothing but errors.

Now, if this makes a difference: it's a used phone, and when I go under Phone -> Options, it still shows a phone number at the top (presumably the old owner), and it still says Verizon Wireless on the main screen. However, I'm currently waiting for Page Plus to port over my Vonage number.

If you can help me out with either of these things, that would make my day. I've been trying to search the forum for solutions, but haven't found anything. Thanks!
