Guest gdrijver Posted December 23, 2009 Report Posted December 23, 2009 I have an unlocked Omnia i-900 and recently switched to AT&T in the USA. When I had the same phone in Europe it picked up the 3G and HSDPA signal no problem. However it doesn't pick up AT&T's 3G signal now. I know that HSDPA is still being developed here, but I SHOULD be able to pick up the 3G speed no problem. I know the issue is not the ROM because the same ROM picked it up in Europe. The Phone is picking up the AT&T Network but only on EDGE. Yes I do have the unlimited smartphone data plan added to my account. Any suggestions? Gordon

Gordon Hi gdrijver, The short answer is that 3G in North America (and some South America) uses a different frequency than 3G for the rest of the world. It is a hardware issue. The quam chip in our Omnia will not pick up 3G in NA. Edge is all you are going to get with your Omnia. This has been a known problem/situation since Omnia came out over a year ago. There are a lot of old posts on this subject on Modaco and other sites. For more details, like the exact frequencies involved and more on the quam chip ==> SEARCH - this site and google others. After doing your research, you will then agree this is a deadend quest. Please check back here and post the results of your research. Ron...

I-900 Omia Specs: 2G NetworkGSM 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900 3G NetworkHSDPA 2100 Frequencies they use in the USA: At&t: 850MHz and 1900MHz (includes 3G) Since the Omnia only allows for the HSDPA to be picked up on the 2100 band, this wouldn't work in the USA. Currently no provider in the USA is using the 2100 frequency for 3G coverage Bummer Gordon The Omnia I-900 only allows for the HSDPA network to be used on the 2100 band which is not used by ANY carrier in the USA

Like I said, it has been over a year since this was a hot subject, so I don't remember those details. But now maybe this post will help some other new owners who need to know this info. Ron..

I remeber reading about it about a year ago but then I was on TMobile and I know that they use the 1700 Band so I was aware that 3G wouldn't work on the I-900. I was hoping that on the At&T network it would but again, the I-900 only supports HSDPA on the 2100 frequency/band. So if that's the case, the Omnia II WOULD support 3G in the USA as it has the UMTS/HSDPA on HSDPA 900 / 1900 / 2100? Kust making sure before I get the Omnia II :) G
