Google contacts issues

Having had a T-mobile Pulse for a few weeks now, I'm tearing my hair out trying to get the contacts to sync correctly!

Any contacts which are created or changed in Google Contacts sync to the phone with a blank First Name and Last Name, the full name has instead been put into Nickname. Any Nickname from Google does not get pulled down to the phone.

If I create a new contact on the phone with First Name, Last Name, and Nickname all populated, when it syncs up Google displays the nickname data as Name, with no Nickname. The phone's First Name and Last Name are not pulled through. There's obviously something up with the mapping at one of the ends.

The Birthday data isn't being populated on the Pulse, it only appears in the contact notes, but I could almost live with that, since I can at least add events to the calendar myself.

Finally (so far!), the grouping seems to have a mind of its own. Although some contacts are in the correct category, a number of them appear to have been allocated to a category they are not actually in in Google, twice to add insult to injury.

I've tried deleting all contacts from the phone, exporting from Google then deleting from there and re-importing, but I just end up in the same mess when I sync the phone.

Has anyone else come across this, or even better, found a fix?

To begin with, I came across the birthday problem too. There is a birthday field in the cloud (at googe) and there is one in android. But they dont sync.Ive tried looking on the internet, but I havent found a solution yet. Partially as I am afraid to experiment on my contacts, as Im afraid to mess it up :).

The nickname problem i am not sure about, as I am using the custom ROM. There is no nickname field in its contact app.

Not familir with the category problem.

My brother told me about the same contact name issue that you've described. He just got his Pulse the other day and has experienced the same problem.

Since switching to the vanilla Huawei ROM his contacts sync fine. I'd recommend ditching the stock ROM.

Thanks, so that's the "MoDaCo Custom ROM - U8230 Vanilla Cupcake Style" not the "MoDaCo Custom ROM - Stock T-Mobile Style" ?

I might raise a query with T-mobile customer support, but doubt they'll have any idea what I'm talking about!

That's correct. Make sure that this is what you want - basically, you'll lose all of the T-Mobile software that they pre-load onto the phone.

There is definitely an issue with the field mappings between Google Contacts and the T-Mobile contacts app. Also, T-Mobile's software syncs your entire contacts list - you can't configure it to only sync particular contact groups.
