Guest Gydeon Posted December 24, 2009 Report Posted December 24, 2009 Hey guys, I know there are some dutch people around here, that might share the same problem as I do. I've been waiting for the WM6.5 update for a long time, and when it FINALLY arrived, it was not supported for Vodafone devices ;) . ( Still waiting for the so-called E-mail they should sent if the update was available :) ). If I try to update my phone through Samsung NPS, I get the "device is not supported" error in the Update-menu ( after selecting my phone from the drop-down menu ). Now I heard some Dutch devices got some strange software on them for Austria ( or something like that, think i've seen it on Tweakers' Omnia B7610 topic... B) ) and therefore got the same error. After reading this, and waiting another 2 weeks, I've started to wonder if my phone does not have this strange software. Are there any other Dutch Vodafone owners that share the same problem, or have updated their device to WM6.5 already ( by original roms, no cooked roms from modaco etc. ) ? Could you share your experiences, and tell me how to officially update my device to WM6.5 ( if possible ). I've heard WM6.5 brings a little performance boost along, which I'd like to experience myself B) . Thanks in advance, Gydeon.
Guest ismo2004 Posted January 21, 2010 Report Posted January 21, 2010 I've got the same problem: called Dutch Vodafone three times and they don't know anything at all. Samsung blames Vodafone. Getting very frustrated just waiting for the monolith Vodafone to get moving on this issue. Considered 'debranding' but would lose my guarantee. Anybody found a solution for this problem? ismo2004
Guest SuperLOL Posted January 21, 2010 Report Posted January 21, 2010 Yes the solution is simple give the phone back and buy a no branded phone.
Guest ismo2004 Posted January 22, 2010 Report Posted January 22, 2010 Already tried giving the phone BACK to VODAFONE but they refused it and said it was USED and couldn't be returned. Can't actually complain because the phone works fine and have no problems with my connection. Vodafone branding doesn't really mean anything. An example: connecting to INTERNET; the only way to do this is to download instructions and spend about 20 minutes or more typing commands into the phone to get a VODAFONE Blox internet connection. The worst thing is that the instructions are full of misstakes or things they forget to mention.
Guest SuperLOL Posted January 22, 2010 Report Posted January 22, 2010 You should really inform yourself about your rights :)
Guest Gydeon Posted January 25, 2010 Report Posted January 25, 2010 (edited) For the dutch vodafone users: A few days ago I found a file on the newsgroups ( click here. You might need a pay-server to get this one ). I flashed this file using the fairly easy DUTCH instructions in the file, and the phone now runs on WinMo 6.5 :). The phone automatically adjusts to Vodafone settings, so no need to worry about them. During the flash, you can also choose to NOT reset your Phone storage. However, it's best to remove SIM and Memory card during flash, and back-up your personal files on the phone before flashing ( I used PPCPimBackup for contacts, sms, etc. ) I recommend this for any Dutch users that are still waiting for the Dutch Vodafone WinMo 6.5 rom! It works perfect. I can set my own language, can make and receive calls, sms, e-mail etc. The only downpoint I can name so far, is the fact that the original WinMo 6.1 Settings menu is missing ( In the WinMo 6.5 menu, the settings menu shortcut is replaced with samsung's own settings menu, which I think is a bit messy and misses some features ). By using SPB Mobile Shell, you can get your original Settings menu back ( although it's in SPB Mobile Shell look, but you'll get all the options back ). And right after the flash, the screen text will appear something like Bulgarian on SPB mobile shell. Make sure that you change your regional settings ( which I couldn't find in the Samsung Settings menu B) ) to the right language. Overall I do think there is a small performance improvement. However, the most annoying things ( unresponsive keyboard when you try to type really fast for instance ) is still not fixed. I hope Samsung fixes this sometime, or another chef will bring out a ROM that fully supports the hardware of the B7610 ( which I think is still underused... ). If you're updating for the WinMo 6.5 look, than you gotta take it! If you're looking for performance improvement, you can stick with WinMo 6.1 ( maybe the hard reset of the update speeds up your device, but I don't know if it offers great speed improvements in comparison to WinMo 6.1 ). I guess that's all I got to say for now, this problem is solved for me, and can be closed ( unless other find problems during the installation of this ROM ). [FOR ismo2004] I don't know if you'll loose your guarantee by using this ROM. As far as I know, they don't make such a big problem out of it. My former phone ( HTC Touch Dual ) was returned, and they said it was no problem ( i had insurance with Vodafone, so that might make a big difference ! ). I told them that there were official WinMo 6.5 updates for the phone, and that Vodafone doesn't support them ( Touch Dual officially doesn't support WinMo 6.5, but they don't know :D ). I said I tried to solve some problems by changing software, but that it didn't work. If you use a rom like this one, they'll probably take it back in case of guarantee. If you cook a custom rom ( cooked by someone on Modaco or XDA for instance ), they'll probably blaim the ROM straight away. Since this looks like an original ROM, they simply can't B) Edited January 25, 2010 by Gydeon

Guest Gydeon Posted January 25, 2010 Report Posted January 25, 2010 Hi, Any chance you can rapidshare the files mate please? Or another download site? I'm not at home right now. I happen to have the files on my PC at home. I think I could try upload them on MegaUpload ( supports up to 500 MB if I remember right ). I'll keep you informed on the progress
