Guest dundee18 Posted December 28, 2009 Report Posted December 28, 2009 Total Noobie here. I have recently ordered a pulse and I have read a number of posts where people have mentioned different apps. Just wondering if it would be helpful to have a topic where people can list their favourite apps or where a list of "must have" apps can be created by people with more experience than myself. I know that this can be subjective but there must be some apps that people feel are required to improve the phone or the OS etc. E.g I read somewhere that installing another keyboard is better than the installed keyboard. There must be a lot of collective knowledge out there that can save a lot of time and effort for all of us. Maybe even a list of apps for those with the T-Mobile Rom and a list of apps for those with the custom rom created by Paul. Just some suggestions. Please be kind and don't flame me if you don't think my suggestion is any good or if this has benn done elsewhere. I had a search but couldn't find anything. Thanks and I find this forum very helpful and friendly by the way.
Guest Timmmm Posted December 28, 2009 Report Posted December 28, 2009 Nice thread idea. Here's what I've got installed: Last.fm Proxoid - Excellent HTTP proxy (i.e. tethering for the web) Wake On Lan Wordup Facebook Shazam, although I've never really used it. Google Sky Map Barcode Scanner ShopSavvy By the way, did you know that the "Read phone state" permission allows apps to get your phone number and IMEI? Some of the permissions apps ask for are pretty dodgy. You should really be able to install them anyway but deny them access to things (especially the internet).
Guest bounty123 Posted December 28, 2009 Report Posted December 28, 2009 As must have apps I'd consider these: acontacts - i do all my phone calls with it, features T9, call log, alphabetic sorting, etc. handcent SMS - highly customizable sms client, beats the original hands down battery widget - has a quick onclick menu as well to toggle wifi/bluetooth etc. missed call - alert service for missed sms/call, low battery etc. others that I like: astro file manager, quick settings, countdown alarm, keepassdroid, mute, my tracks, bar control

Guest Phil Brennan Posted January 6, 2010 Report Posted January 6, 2010 1. I do not have an app killer on my phone. It's a total waste of time, as the memory allocation system on a Linux machine is totally different to that of a windows machine. Stop thinking Windows, people. 2. My list of essential apps: Astro - alternative file manager that allows you to back up your applications to SD card as full programs in a special folder on your SD card. Spare Parts - puts all the settings menu items that Huawei have left off the Pulse / U8220 into a nice utility. SuperBoot / Quick Boot / RA-pulse-v1.5.2 - see stickied threads on this board for details. Dolphin Browser - better than the bog standard browser and can just about handle Google Wave. eBuddy - Simple multi-IM client. dxTop: Home Alternative - best desktop alternative program I have found so far. I have added the Rusty Metal theme and the Steampunk icon set. Barcode Scanner - For scanning items in shops and comparing prices. Also handles QR Codes for web sites and Android Market applications. Listen - Podcast Aggregating in one neat application. Aldiko - eReader app with quite a comprehensive library of titles to download, from free books (inc modern titles released under the CC license) to paid for titles. GDocs Notepad - Note pad application that saves all your notes to a special folder on your Google Docs account. Google Sky Map - nice live stellarium application with GPS location and the works. Unlike KStars for Linux / KDE, you cannot (yet) run a robot telescope off it. QuickDic (DE) - German-English / English-German dictionary. Beautiful Widgets - Nice set of widgets for your desktop, including clock/weather widgets, and all those little buttons to toggle on/off things like Blue Tooth, Wifi, etc. aRing - Application that gives you more control over ringtones, notification tones, and the such like. Colorful Life - Application to sync photos from your phone's camera / SD card to your PicasaWeb account at Google. Like GDocs it puts them in a specially made album. ShootMe - Screenshot application that works in the background. Just shake and bake for a screenshot... FreeDictionaryOrg - Free Dictionary. Does what it says on the tin... Phil.
