A public apology - I have been an arse

Hello guys and girls :) .

I am here today to apologise for being such an arrogant, snappy and altogether irritating bore, since joining this forum. I have absolutely no reason for over-reacting and being such a complete arse, and I really cannot explain why it is that I have behaved this way, and got on the wrong side of people.

When you have multiple people complaining that you are being blunt and rude, after a while you kinda change your viewpoint from "the're all against me" to "It must be my attitude"... which it has been. I am extremely embarrassed that I have shown myself up, and having read back over my post history, I really do sound like a whining teenager with a hormonal imbalance... I have made a complete arse of myself, and I just want to let all the kind and generous people that make this community what it is as a whole, know that I am am sorry for having been this way, and I shall not be continuing my arrogant tirade - I recognise that I now need to make amends, and this is the first step in that process.

One thing I am particularly bad at, is not always taking a step back, and re-reading posts which irritate me, and I often forget the advice that I give others; you don't have any idea in which tone of voice the particular thread which annoys you was spoken & meant, so going off on one is simply destructive, and no community can survive divided, especially over such petty and thoughtless behaviour.

I have not behaved as a Christian - I am a Christian, and I believe that I have behaved to the complete contrary of how someone with compassion and understanding should. I hope you guys will accept that I am human (I promise! ;) ) and I hope you'll give me the chance to prove that I am not always such a snappy and volatile chap - I have a lot to offer this community, and I absolutely love mobile gadgets, and especially the free software community & Android OS, but just gadgets in general.

I am an electronics engineer by qualification (I am 34 - I've been pulling things apart since I was... 6?!) and I love fixing, modding and hacking hardware especially. I am also fascinated by computers and software, although the frustration of being unable to absorb many programming languages (Objective-C as used on the iPhone, drove me round the bend!) has put me off time and again, but I always get back on the horse. I am now LOVING Java, and I find the whole principle so easy to understand (which is kinda handy, as Android apps are written in Java - HOW convenient! :o ).

If I can help you guys & girls in any way with electronics & general, non-programming computer questions in any way, please feel free to ask. I am not the monster that I may have painted myself to be, I just want to be accepted and to help strengthen the community overall. I would especially like to say a gigantic thanks to Paul for the MCR rom - I loved your rom, it is on my Pulse which I caress and stroke and play with daily (oh dear - that sounds obsessive... well it IS! B) ).

Thanks to everyone @ Modaco - this is a wonderful place to browse, help, share & learn. Without folk like us, the tech scene would be permanently shackled by the corporate mindset & it's influences upon locking everything down for the purpose of squeezing us all dry.... ugh.

Thanks guys for taking time to read my waffle, and again - I hope you all can forgive me for being such a grouch;

Happy 2010 - God bless you all B)

Hi Glossywhite,

I am greatly heartened to read your post. :)

I, for one, have learnt from your postings. Your advice on installing MCR did seem clearer to me and gave me confidence to go for it. On the other hand, it did strike me as being insensitive. Paul and others here have worked hard and they are the reason why I (and probably many others) browse this forum habitually. We all benefit from constructive debate which adds to understanding. For that to happen, we all need to reflect on our posts and take care in what we post.

I find that in the written posts (especially when composed in a hurry) can be problematic in that I miss verbal and non verbal cues. In normal conversation we use those cues automatically to detect subtleties in emotion. As a result, there is a real risk of misreading intentions in other people's post and also in conveying an impression which is apt to be misinterpreted by others. I find these rules help me:

1) Never reply when feeling annoyed. Wait a while for emotions to settle.

2) Try to give others the benefit of the doubt. I think people generally mean well, and that my interpretation of someone's post may be wrong.

3) Always re-read my own posting before hitting the "send" button to see if I might possibly inadvertently cause offence

I would welcome everyone's continued participation so that we may all gain the maximum benefit from our Pulse!

I was one of the complainers via PM (and got blocked as well). I am glad you have come to your senses.

As I said in my PM I think you mean well, but it does not come out that way. Hope you can contribute to

this great source of information and keep in mind that the competence level overhere is quite diverse.

Keep in mind this is an international forum (I am Dutch for instance), although the British community is

prevailing. But for foereigners it might be difficult; as non-native speakers; to grasp some subtleties

which might be present in your messages.

And now back to our favourite device!

I have respect for the way you apologies to this community ;)

I also happy that everyone here is so understanding :) Im starting to like this helping community more and more. Without this forum my beloved pulse would have shurely been best for stopping doors at this point.

(The Netherlands Rule, it's a waste that here, the Pulse isn't as cheap as in the UK)
