Guest Nava2468 Posted December 30, 2009 Report Posted December 30, 2009 This unlocked Hero A6262 from the Czech Rep. is driving this newbee to Android batty. i have the device in the USA connected to the AT&T Wireless network. can browse the web fine and make calls. The details of the device are as follows: Radio 63.18.55.06FU_6.35.07.08 Kernal 2.6.27-4cda1257 ROM 2.73.495.24 146733 HBOOT 1.76.0007 The device does not have the marketplace app (which is essential for me) nor any of the Terminal apps. I have tried the patched recovery image (Using GSM set it sticks on the FASTBOOT screen and i get the "FAILED: (remote: not allowed when i then run the fastboot-windows boot recovery-RA-hero-vx.x.x)) and the Flashrec (no terminal to run the app nor enough experience with the Ubuntu to make it work) to no avail. I must be missing a link or a post and my searches must be all wrong cause i keep going in circles. If someone could put me on the correct path i would greatly appreciate it.

It sounds like you have the security locked bootloader, and also a new ROM that doesn't allow downgrades. You are going to need to create a GoldCard and use that to downgrade the phone to an old version of the HTC software. That older version will have a version of HBOOT that will allow fastbooting of the patched recovery. For info on this process, take a look here. Essentially, you install an older version of the HTC ROM using the RUU utility linked at the end of the guide. This will put you in a position to use fastboot and get a custom ROM onto the device (such as Modaco Custom ROM 3.0 or a rooted version of the stock ROM (see here for info about MCR, or here for info about rooted stock ROMs) using the update.zip files given Just be sure to use a rooted ROM. And once you have gone through this process, be sure to take a Nandroid backup from AmonRA recovery image (or whatever image you choose to use). Also, it usually goes without saying, but after going through this long winded process, don't install any official updates onto the device. Instead, pop back here and get the update as an update.zip, then do a Nandroid backup and install the update.zip (preferably a rooted one, so you still have full access to the phone) Hope this helps, and welcome to the forums :)
Guest Nava2468 Posted January 2, 2010 Report Posted January 2, 2010 Hello Pulser. Thanks a heap for the Help....I will begin that process today. i had a feeling that downgrading the ROM was going to be necessary, just did not want to take that leap just yet.....as for the network carrier updating the ROM, dont think that will happen cause AT&T probably wont carry the Hero for like at least 2 or 3 years....if ever. thanks again.

Hold on... Is AT&T a 'normal' GSM network? Only asking, as I'm from UK, and know that in the US there is CDMA and GSM. (CDMA being the phones without the sim cards, GSM being those with simcards) If it's not GSM, don't use any GSM things when flashing. If it is GSM, then go ahead as normal, but just thought I'd check as I don't know which networks use which phone systems over the pond.
