Guest David Horvath Posted December 30, 2009 Report Posted December 30, 2009 Hey Lads, I've recently bought a Pulse, and just want to report back that a TurboSIM works with it flawlessly. I dont know what version i have, i assume every version would do its job. TurboSIM is by the way is a small folie with a chip, what alters the communication between the SIM card and the phone, making the phone believe that the sim is from the network what is allowed by the provider. If there are questions, dont hesitate. Cheers, Chronos

Guest David Horvath Posted December 30, 2009 Report Posted December 30, 2009 What's a "folie"? ;) Foil, film. We call it fólia, i thought there is such a word :) This is it:
Guest BigBearMDC Posted December 30, 2009 Report Posted December 30, 2009 So theres no need to unlock your Phone. Great! Greetings, BigBearMDC
Guest nicox45 Posted December 30, 2009 Report Posted December 30, 2009 where did you buy it? is there only one model for turbosim?
Guest preetkk Posted December 30, 2009 Report Posted December 30, 2009 oh well paid £12.50 to get mine unlocked yesterday via code wish I tried finding my turbosim and then testing it before I bought the code I just assumed it wouldn't work being about a year old... I only paid 2 or 3 pounds for the turbo sim too. never mind
Guest glossywhite Posted December 30, 2009 Report Posted December 30, 2009 Why risk having to cut up your sim, and mess about with wedging the Turbosim between the SIM holder & the SIM?. I am so glad I didn't futz around with Turbosim... and what happens if you lose the Tubosim?... your phone is still locked. Proper unlock is the proper solution.
Guest nicox45 Posted December 30, 2009 Report Posted December 30, 2009 I thought with that turbosim you didn't have to cut up your sim, am I right?

I got a Turbosim (2008) from dealextreme.com and it was not necessary to cut the sim. The chip is in a different place - at the cut corner, and fits in the pulse without any problems. As for unlocking it, with a new phone I think it is better to use a Turbosim as the phone may go faulty and need to be replaced etc. Also I would hope that unlocking would be cheaper after a year or so.

Guest glossywhite Posted December 30, 2009 Report Posted December 30, 2009 so it means you unlocked your pulse with turbosim.. which turbosim did you buy from dealextreme.com? This is false informaion. Turbosim doesn't unlock the phone in which it is used; Turbosim spoofs the IMSI information that the handset is expecting is of the same carrier to which it is locked, so that the handset thinks the SIM which is being used, is of the same network, hence bypassing the SIMlock mechanism. Clever.
Guest psionandy Posted December 30, 2009 Report Posted December 30, 2009 so it means you unlocked your pulse with turbosim.. which turbosim did you buy from dealextreme.com? And are there any differences in turbosims, things to look out for or is one turbo sim pretty much the same as another?
Guest glossywhite Posted December 30, 2009 Report Posted December 30, 2009 (edited) And are there any differences in turbosims, things to look out for or is one turbo sim pretty much the same as another? Yes - look for the one with the EEPROM in the corner, so it fits inside the standard SIM "missing corner", so to speak. As far as firmware of the Turbosim... who knows?!. I really can't see why you'd want a Turbosim - if your phone gets lost or stolen, Turbosim goes with it... so you're still back to square one, with a new phone that is locked. Just ordered one at £2.72, that's 5 times cheaper than unlocking. What about if I lose the unlocked phone, don't I need to pay to unlock the next one? Edited December 30, 2009 by seybrew

I don't quite get your reasoning there. Anyway, I use this one and it works perfectly: http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.13480

I bought the slightly more expensive one with the chip on the corner of the card: http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.25336

But if you got an unlock code, unlocked your phone and then it got stolen you would still be "back to square one, with a new phone that is locked." =/
Guest davos1 Posted December 31, 2009 Report Posted December 31, 2009 Can you access 3G network? I bought the slightly more expensive one with the chip on the corner of the card: http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.25336 It works on 3G fine. It really doesn't make much of a difference if you use a Turbosim vs a proper unlock.
Guest Jason Patel Posted December 31, 2009 Report Posted December 31, 2009 Its a simple matter of different strokes for different folks. If the end result is the same then what does it matter on the method.
Guest jcsbanks Posted January 1, 2010 Report Posted January 1, 2010 I tried one for 48 hours but found that a fully charged battery would discharge overnight and the phone would be turned off in the morning. I wondered if that was because it was now sitting on 3G rather than 2G most of the time... So I got an unlock yesterday and will see how that goes. It did not discharge overnight this time. I kill tasks, I think the BBC news and finance widgets may not be helping, will have to see. Battery life makes you need to plan charges around the phone, my Blackberry used to last a week. This will probably need to be unplugged from the charger each morning.

I cannot get the turbosim remain still when slotting in my sim card, even tried slotting them together. The one I bought the chip is a different position.

The only way of doing it, is slotting in together while applying slight pressure.

Guest David Horvath Posted January 12, 2010 Report Posted January 12, 2010 I tried your method, but the turbosim move further inside the slot. For me its quite stable in the slot, if i can help you somehow, let me know.
