Droid Eris Root (Verizon Hero)

While its not actually a Hero but a Desire, I thought this would be the best place to post this.

At xda-dev, we've been looking into rooting the phone for over a month now. Our topic has reached almost 120 pages, and to no avail. What I'm wondering. Since the nexus has been rooted, can that same method be used for the Verizon Hero (Desire)? I have a device I've been using to test everything, so if we could get superboot.img for this device as well, it would be amazing :)
