Guest adzman808 Posted December 31, 2009 Report Posted December 31, 2009 hi guys, just wondered if there was any debrand info for the tg01.. probably showing my ignorance here (......) but my ol' nokia 6300 simply flew after a debrand (ie removing all telephony provider pre-installed stuff, like the boot up screen, themes & restricted features) how easy would this be to do on my tg01 & is the benefit as noticeable on WM opposed to symbian? i realise this won't unlock the phone ~ i just don't want to have to look at the word 'orange' whilst the phone boots up... :)) i notice that the toshiba official site now offers a 6.5 upgrade (i already have this os software oem installed) could i reinstall wm6.5 from the toshiba site & over write the provided (ie orange) software? cheers adam
Guest swollenballs Posted December 31, 2009 Report Posted December 31, 2009 i wanted to debrand as well but thinking twice i thought orange actually added value with their own menu system, phone would really bland otherwise. but if you are successful plz let me know
Guest adzman808 Posted December 31, 2009 Report Posted December 31, 2009 a cursorary google suggests 'flashing ROMs' & other things i don't understand (yet...) i haven't really tried the orange screen, i dunno it looked a bit over populated... the toshiba one looks like a colour match chart, so i just have a pic, a few links & get my stuff from the start menu.... i did try the download of spb, was nice but perhaps a bit pricey for what it is... i think re debranding maybe its a waste of time... i mean its windows, so how quick is it ever gonna boot up :) if i make any progress i'll post results!
Guest jasonrabbit Posted January 1, 2010 Report Posted January 1, 2010 (edited) The only possible de-brand we can do is to Hard Reset then do screen set up then before the phone loads cabs you need to soft reset this will stop Orange rom from loading but you do need to watch what you now do with the phone like picking today theme as this am cause all the cabs to load. If you just want a WM6.5 rom as it comes then this is how to do it. HAPPY NEW YEAR TO YOU ALL Edited January 1, 2010 by jasonrabbit
Guest useyourfist Posted January 1, 2010 Report Posted January 1, 2010 i would also like to do this to see if it frees up ram or storage space
Guest Neil5459 Posted January 1, 2010 Report Posted January 1, 2010 This is not possible without someone developing a way of 'cooking' ROMs for the TG01. The download from the Toshiba site will only give you the operator's version for the country you are in, so no real advantage there :) Stopping the 'customisation' after a rest will only work for a relatively short time; the few times I tried it, the operator stuff always installed eventually. At least the TG01 is blessed with ample storage memory (unlike my current HD2 which only has 130MB free due to the amount of space HTC Sense takes up); Program memory can be saved by just using a simple home screen- going to Settings/Today/Items and making sure the Toshiba and Orange custom screens are not selected.

(bare with me, i'm a little hungover still...) 1 hard reset (either via menu option or the thing you do booting it up whilst holding down various buttons) 2 let the phone start (?) go to start/settings/today ~ select desired options (which for me is neither orange nor toshiba home screen), then press ok & do a soft reset or don't press ok & do a soft reset? but don't go back to the orange home screen cos it'll load the orange ROM? does the hard reset not set the phone to how it was when it was brand new from orange or does it reset it to a generic toshiba default? cheers

Guest useyourfist Posted January 1, 2010 Report Posted January 1, 2010 (edited) people are selling debrandede tg01 on ebay specifically saying that they are unbranded to the original toshiba software with no orange stuff ect i will ask them for more detail. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/BRAND-NEW-TOSHIBA-TG...=item3358c4bd79 EDIT they have toshiba factory firmware but are not allowed to sell i told him to look here if he wants to offer it to people Edited January 1, 2010 by useyourfist

If it gets to that state then a simple Factory Reset will do the trick and restore your phone to how it was when new- ie you lose anything you have installed or customised.

Guest Neil5459 Posted January 2, 2010 Report Posted January 2, 2010 thanks i "discovered" sprite back up yesterday, so that's a little less worry at breaking things !!! Beware of Sprite backup at the moment- the current version doesn't fully support WM6.5. Spb Backup V2 is fully WM6.5 compatible so a safer bet if you are buying! Don't forget- take a 'basic' backup after you have things stable, which you can revert to. Restoring a recent backup may just restore the faults as well :) £20 for a ROM flash 'in person' is pretty good value. Don't forget, Smartphones are much more complex than most normal phones and are a lot harder to modify. As you suggest though, I'd tend to use yours 'as is' for a while. The Orange branding is so minimal anyway, you'd gain little by a full de-brand apart from some awkward questions if it ever needed warranty repair.

HAPPY NEW YEAR TO YOU ALL The below discussion topic in this forum contains useful details on how to stop the branded cabs from being auto installed. I used the ceregeditor (the link is provided in the thread) to access HKLM\Software\Toshiba\AutoCabInstall and then deleted all the entries that I didn't want to be installed. I can confirm that after stopping these cabs from installing (except coreplayer of course) I had over 200MB of free storage memory. http://www.modaco.com/content-page/297057/...nguage/page/20/

Perhaps some who is using this ROM can provide the information about free RAM available and we can compare. Your idea of removing the AutoCabInstall keys is brilliant. I'll do it next time I update (if any).

This is after manually removing the superfluous games and videos. Good call on the auto-install though :)
