Missing 'Prefer UMTS (3G) Network' option

Have updated my T-Mobile Pulse with the December update and noticed that the option 'Prefer UMTS (3G) Network' is missing. Done the same with the 2nd phone but also installed the custom modaco t-mobile rom onto it and the option is there..... Anything I have done wrong? Used a vodafone sim on the original one [phone unlocked] and used a t-mobile sim in the 2nd phone [locked onto t-mobile].

Thanks

There were issues with this option on the TMob network, when it was ticked you received no phone signal at all so the advice was not to use the option. I guess they've removed it instead of fixing it. However, saying that, mine connects no problem to a 3g network when it is available so I guess you do not even need the option anyway.

Does the t-mobile modaco rom add this option back in? Basically I noticed on the 2nd phone after installing the official December update... On the 1st phone I have I installed the December update and then the t-mobile modaco 1.6 rom and the option is there....

3G works on both phones though so should be ok, just wondering....

Still appears on my dec stock rom updated pulse, maybe it's the sim?

Will check. I just put the December update & modaco t-mobile custom rom on and the option is not there. Both phones have same rom but with different network sims.

I'm on O2:

- with the stock t-mobile ROM with December update I have the "Prefer UMTS..." option

- with the vanilla cupcake ROM I DON'T have the "Prefer UMTS..." option

You might want to recheck which ROMs you are using, from memory I got exactly the opposite options

T-mobile Dec update - no Prefer UTMS

U8230 based after Dec update - Prefer UTMS available (this one I'm sure of as its what I'm using now)

Same as le_lutin, I'm on vanilla cupcake 1.2 ( using it now ) - prefer UMTS is NOT available, but remember having this option with T-mob stock ROM ( 1.6 ).

How strange ;]

I've definitely got it right. Using the vanilla cupcake one (love it by the way!) now and have no prefer UMTS option.

It is strange indeed. Which network are you guys on - maybe the sim card makes a difference? I'm on O2.

Oh by the way, if the option to "Use only 2g networks" is NOT ticked, it does seem to pick up 3g networks.

Before (the vanilla update), when I had the the prefer UMTS (3g) option ticked, it would ONLY log me on to 3g networks and if there were none available, it would tell me there was "No Service" instead of logging me on the the (available) 2g network.

I don't suppose anyone has solved this have they? I upgraded to the Modaco Stock T Mobile 1.7 ROM last night and now this setting is missing from the menu. I'm on Three and kinda rely on this option to stave off battery issues...

What option do you have now?

When i put my t mobile sim back in the phone to use the free internet the prefer 3g option came back. I think sim must have something to do with it.

(Pulse style 1.7 MCR)

I have this option back too with the modaco v1.7 cupcake rom.... I might have put the t-mobile simcard in there at one point too?

Are you saying that once you put a T-Mobile sim in, then the option was still available when you took the T-Mobile sim out and put in one from another provider?

Yep, the tmobile sim has some crazy power!!! It also wiped all of my bookmarks and installed the ones it wanted. Very annoying. Glad i got it unlocked!!!

I am down to only the 'Use 2G networks only' option.

Do you still have the t-mobile simcard? Or borrow one? Try putting it in your phone and see if the 3g option appears....

It does. All back to normal now. Weird. Thanks though!
