Guest TheTester Posted January 4, 2010 Report Posted January 4, 2010 (edited) Hi all, I am wondering why upgrading from Windows 7 is not possible. I am really greatful for the good tutorials on how to flash your Omnia with VMWare and XP, but this is so much hassle just to upgrade, it is not funny. I installed VMWare and XP Pro x86 with SP3 on my Atom system with Windows 7 x64, but it does not work, the Virtual XP machine just does not recognize the Omnia. I installed VMWare and XP Pro x86 with SP3 on my HP Mobile Workstation (HP 8510w) with Windows 7 x64, but it does not work, the start button can never be pressed. So now I am installing XP on an old laptop, to try this, but I still have to see if that is working. What is the big issue to get this all working on Windows 7/Vista? Second thing I could not find an answer for is: What is a M2Dv2 ROM? What is extra in that, or missing in that ROM? Thanks in advance for your answer and patience from a newbie on flashing. The .exe updater made by the chefs are only for xp because it needs an activesync installed on your pc in order to connect with the omnia and windows 7 and vista are not compatible with activesync... did you try using grandprix? Second thing I could not find an answer for is: What is a M2Dv2 ROM? What is extra in that, or missing in that ROM? Thanks in advance for your answer and patience from a newbie on flashing. m2dv2 ROM has manilla 2d cooked in(an interface taken from htc)... Here's an example using ryrzy's ROM with build 28002 NORMAL M2Dv2 I hope this can help you... ^^,

Can it be that the update is not working (not even on the laptop directly with Windows XP) because of the USB cable, I do not have an original Samsung cable, because they are very hard to get here. Guest whigga Posted January 4, 2010 Report Posted January 4, 2010 What is the big issue to get this all working on Windows 7/Vista? Thanks in advance for your answer and patience from a newbie on flashing. Ok Sherlock, here's what you do: 1.) get grandprix for vista 1.6.4 (also for usage on Windows 7) 2.) get i900_EXEcutor.exe (you will find both somewhere here on Modaco or otherwise use google) 3.) get whatever ROM you want to flash 4.) dissasemble the ROM with i900_executor. (it will create a new folder in the same one where you have saved the ROM with a couple of files) 5.) run grandprix as administrator (right click, select "run as administrator". It is essential to do this) 6.) load LOADER, PDA and CSC (some roms don't have CSC - it's ok...leave blank) to be found in the folder just created by i900_EXEcutor. You can leave PHONE blank as well. 7.) disable START DOWNLOAD IMMEDIATELY 8.) connect phone 9.) click "DETECT" 10.) restart phone 11.) 1st time it will search for drivers (like MODEM DRIVER in XP). Just let it do its thing. 12.) If Grandprix doesn't find the phone immediatly just restart phone a few times until it finds it. 13.) repeat steps 9-11 until Grandprix shows phone found. 14.) when phone is found you are ready to go. Just press "DOWNLOAD" sit back and enjoy the show. It is recommended to hard reset your phone immediately after a succesfull flash. Get your hands on SPB back-up. Before flashing create a full system backup. Restore your phone's settings, etc. with just one click using this full system backup. Saves you an hour of messing around. If Grandprix is unable to find your phone, try the following: Go to windows mobile device > device settings > uncheck the top three boxes. Close device centre before flashing. This method is already known for quite some time now. It works on both Windows 7 and XP. If you had done a little bit of searching, you would have found a number of topics discussing flashing on both OS. Good luck!
Guest ...angel... Posted January 4, 2010 Report Posted January 4, 2010 I could not find grandprix, do you have a link? (And will it work with Windows 7?) Check here:How to Flash omnia on Windows 7 I had not tested it yet... check the feedback of those who've done it already... ^^, That is clear :) Thanks! You're welcome ^^, Can it be that the update is not working (not even on the laptop directly with Windows XP) because of the USB cable, I do not have an original Samsung cable, because they are very hard to get here. Hmmm I don't know if you can use a Samsung cable which is not original... Try to research about it... But I believe it's advisable to use an original one...

Try to research about it... But I believe it's advisable to use an original one... Well.... I tried Wigga's method without result, so I really think my cable is broken in some way. I just ordered a new one (Genuine) on Ebay, so I hope this will work out ok. Thanks to all for your help so far.
Guest whigga Posted January 4, 2010 Report Posted January 4, 2010 (edited) TheTester, I didn't read it before, but it must be your cable. I've flashed numerous times on both windows vista and 7 using the exact method I described above using a original cable. The cable is obviously essential to get it right. Good luck! Let us know when you have managed succesfully. Btw: flashing a ROM using grandprix isn't complicated at all if you just follow the steps above. However, people are right saying that flashing under a xp machine is indeed the easiest, most reliable and idiot proof way. If you have the proper cable of course... :-) Edited January 4, 2010 by whigga
Guest kevin2210 Posted January 4, 2010 Report Posted January 4, 2010 i think you should do it with a xp machine or at least vitural xp on win 7 , you shouldnt use grand pix it's quite complicate and easy to brick yours phone, just follow traditional way , flash rom in xp with exe file rom
