Touch 2 Image Query

My wife has just taken out a HTC Touch 2 and is having a problem reading the text on sms messages due to the awfull image thats displayed behind the white text.

What i would like to do is actually change the images to something that makes the white text easier to see but cant see a way of doing it via the settings, as all that changes is the Home Wallpaper. I thought browsing the files on the phone would help but for the life of me i cant find the right file. Has anyone any ideas as to what this image is called or if there is an easy way of changing the image without going down the file browsing route.
