Guest Bibbly Posted January 5, 2010 Report Posted January 5, 2010 After I turn my pulse on and use a location app, my phone thinks it is in Bogota, Columbia, presumably gathering the location data from the cell tower. When I first got it, just before Christmas, IIRC, it thought it was in Austria. Some apps such as Google maps will then use GPS and get my location correct down to a couple of metres but some apps seem to refuse to use the GPS and show me data relevant to South America. Is this a known bug or am I missing something obvious? though I'm pretty sure I'm in the UK :-) I have the stock T-Mobile rom installed.
Guest xangma Posted January 5, 2010 Report Posted January 5, 2010 Yeah I was in india for like a week. No idea.
Guest jmmL Posted January 5, 2010 Report Posted January 5, 2010 Yeah I was in india for like a week. No idea. On the way to Yorkshire recently I took a brief diversion to northern Italy, before returning to my original route.
Guest racingclub Posted January 5, 2010 Report Posted January 5, 2010 mine always goes straight to Delhi when I reboot, seems ok after i wander around. I thought it might need to change cells before it worked itself out
Guest scoobydoo99 Posted January 5, 2010 Report Posted January 5, 2010 Mine thinks it's in Thailand - wish I was, it's bloody freezing in Aberdeenshire. It was ok last week but can't sort itself this week - google maps is ok though, it's Accuweather thats lost.

Guest scoobydoo99 Posted January 5, 2010 Report Posted January 5, 2010 Hey, it's only 0c. We've went though worse B) Yeah, but it's 25 deg less than my phone thinks it is :)
Guest Calamity James Posted January 7, 2010 Report Posted January 7, 2010 Phew! It's not just me! I couldn't believe what Google Maps was telling me, I was on Orange and it only happened on their 2G network, when I turned 3G back on I returned to Maidstone, Kent! Made me laugh so much I had to screen print the Facebook app: It seems to have sorted itself out recently though on 2G!
Guest Bibbly Posted January 7, 2010 Report Posted January 7, 2010 Mine is still telling me I'm in Bogota, I haven't had a chance to try it on a different cell, the weather has made us effectively snowbound. What really annoys me is how some apps refuse to use GPS data. I can understand why an app would default to using cell tower location info but to ignore the correct GPS data when GPS is turned on seems like dumb programming to me.
Guest Jason Patel Posted January 8, 2010 Report Posted January 8, 2010 When I am at home with 3g off the cell tower shows im in Russia, but stick 3g on and its pretty accurate. I always have GPS on but when lattitude is in the background it does not use GPS.
