Guest scoobydoo99 Posted January 6, 2010 Report Posted January 6, 2010 Had the phone 2 weeks now, unlocked it, fitted the Vanilla ROM, added the popular free apps and widgets and running a nice background with the weather widget. Phone looks like a million $'s (ok not quite) and is more than capable of everything I wanted. Impressed with the screen quality, wifi capability, build quality and feel, and as a new Android user, how simple it is to add apps. Yet to see a problem with the camera - only taken outdoor photos so far (maybe mine is okay?) I would say that both the screen responsiveness and the battery life have improved noticeably with the Vanilla ROM. Cost me £100 + £12 to unlock - so where's the catch? I almost bought the Acer liquid @ £350. Many thanks to the experts on here who patiently guide us novices through any problems and keep developing new toys :)
Guest rob_turner_uk Posted January 6, 2010 Report Posted January 6, 2010 I know its hard to believe how cheap it is. Cannot understand why more peeps don't get one. I got the Pulse for my MRS as I have a HTC Hero, but I would be more than happy with the Pulse
Guest Daniel Williamson Posted January 6, 2010 Report Posted January 6, 2010 The only think that annoys me with this phone is how creaky and plastiky the back batter cover feels and sounds, a small touch and you can hear it B) but i hope that in the future i can buy the white cover and well not man handle and constantly take the cver off like i do now :) Dan
Guest David Mc0 Posted January 6, 2010 Report Posted January 6, 2010 It is great value for money - its nearest competition costs far more. It's basically an HTC hero + bigger screen, and I guess the catches are its look, the not so good touch screen, and no sense UI. Not sure the Hero is worth about 3 times the price though. However, I do have an HTC Pro2, and the Pulse is a nice toy, and is great for the money, but can't compete with the Pro2 on anything other than being able to run some apps you can't get in win mo (though the Pro2 costs around 4 times the price of the Pulse & has basically the same internals!). Will be good to see what Huawei come up with next.
Guest le_lutin Posted January 6, 2010 Report Posted January 6, 2010 Yet to see a problem with the camera - only taken outdoor photos so far (maybe mine is okay?) Just don't take any photos indoors! Hardware-wise, there are only two drawbacks to the phone for me - the camera and the 2.5mm socket. But for what we paid, it's an absolute gem.
Guest -IP- Posted January 7, 2010 Report Posted January 7, 2010 (edited) Hardware-wise, there are only two drawbacks to the phone for me - the camera and the 2.5mm socket. The camera gives bad results only with bad lighting (in my experience), whenever it's outdoors or indoors.. How much is the 2,5mm jack noticable if you use the adapter which then seems just like a small cable extension? ^^ "So where's the catch?" --> as with everything... there's "the original" and "the Chinese copy"... and Pulse is the copy in this story.. Cheap and lower quality electronic elements are most probably used with Pulse, as opposed to HTC. (take the camera for an example) Put Pulse and Hero side to side, and watch them age... I'm betting Pulse will hardwarely malfunction far before Hero. But all-in-all, I doubt any of us here plan to keep Pulse forever (forever as in > 5 years), so it's definitely best-buy android so far. It's maybe lacking the community support only ... (retorical question - know any other somewhat good Pulse community other than MoDaCo?) What to expect from Huawei next... a copy of HTC Touch HD2 with Android maybe... that would be nice :) EDIT: corrected typo Edited January 7, 2010 by -IP-

No cracking anymore when pressing screen/buttons :-) Phone feels like a million bucks now

Guest le_lutin Posted January 7, 2010 Report Posted January 7, 2010 Bad points: No spare battery No case which isn't huge or fugly :) Are you sure you can't get a spare battery? Googling "T-mobile pulse battery" seems to bring up a few places where you can get one.
